Interstellar Asteroid Fishing

How might a interstellar asteroid meteorite differ in composition than most meteorites found here on earth? Seems like they should have the same classifications.

I wish them luck but I don't think the odds are good given the circumstances.

I can only hope my tax dollars are not being spent to go magnet fishing for an interstellar asteroid from 8 years ago somewhere off the coast of New Guinea deep in the Pacific Ocean.  Malaysian flight 370 is still missing after the same amount of time.  Perhaps they will find that.

I’m a bit skeptical about scientists being able to identify the origins of any meteor based off miners composition.  To me its insane that they can say a meteor came from mars.

I believe this is a privately funded venture and not government funded..

I'm not a scientist so I don't know how they determine the origin of meteorites with the exception of lunars. We've been to the moon so we can make a comparison. The rest...not clue.

If the team is from Harvard, IMO this is a grant funding the research.  No one else but the govt could sail a ship off Australia with a magnet for finding meteors.  I could be wrong.

The Galileo Project is headed by Loeb who I think is a little bit of a crackpot for some of his ideas although I support what he's doing in general. The project seems to be donor funded.
