Jack the rock hunter
Greetings I'm new to this forum. So a couple years ago I went to my cousins farm in Alabama and he has a bunch of fossels and strange rocks, so I got some rocks and fossels from him and I broke them in half to see inside, now I found this forum and I wonder if any one knows what kind of rock this is. Is it maybe a geode Edited February 15 by Jack the rock hunter

fuss
Geodes are typically round and hollow, this looks like Chalcedony or possibly a Carbonate rock of some kind.
Morlock
Put some warm vinegar on it. If it gives a slow fizz after a few minutes, it's calcium carbonate.
chrisski
I think the hole is a vug, which is a fancy name for a gas pocket. Overtime, minerals accumulate inside, some fancier than others including gem quality. I look for vugs in pegmatite, and chip away the quartz, but have had 0 luck.
