middleforkminer2 Posted December 5, 2021 Share Posted December 5, 2021 There may be some gold in there, BUT it won’t be visible….. assay or XRF is the only way to know if there’s any gold With an ore like that, IF there’s gold locked up inside that pyrite, it’s more likely than not, that it would be more costly to refine than it would be worth. I DO usually carry a jewelers loupe with me when I’m out and about, but unless I see actual free gold that can be crushed and panned, the type rock you had usually gets tossed… hard rock mining can get real expensive real fast 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Lanny in AB Posted December 28, 2021 Share Posted December 28, 2021 Pyrite is quite the material, and it does look golden (master of deception sometimes), but unlike real gold that will flatten (rather than crush to small bits), pyrite has its tell that you discovered when you smashed it up.
