Geologists dig into Grand Canyon's mysterious gap in time

Anyone who has prospected in the western US knows that lots of major geographical changes have taken place. Ancient rivers and faults paint part of the picture gold miners have paid attention to. 
This article adds some interesting hints to the past...

Indeed. The great unconformity is a feature of the Sangre de Christo range too. 

It is a band about 15 feet thick in Pecos canyon. It is exposed at several places between Taos and Las Vegas (NM).

The Kt boundary is visible too. You can clearly see that in the Ghost Ranch sandstone. Im sure you can see it in the Grand Canyon too. It is full of irridium indicating a major meteoritic event.

What a hoot. A layer where nothing happened for a very long time.
