My initial impression is two thumbs up (NOX 800)

Recommended Posts

I finally had the time to download, print, and read the user manual, pair the wireless headphones and test this detector with a snuffer bottle that has two flakes that are about half a match head each in size, along with about a quarter gram of fines mixed with a tiny bit of black sand..... :thumbsupanim I was impressed... really sharp response starting at about 6” with the meter reading of minus 6.....this is with the stock 11” coil....I probably won’t make it out to my hunting ground for a couple more weeks....should be fun......

OK....I need to correct/clarify this post...:inocent: .... after re-reading the manual and dumping out the contents of the snuffer bottle, I noticed that a goodly portion of the black sand had oxidized around one of the two tiny flakes/nuggets....:aw-shucks: .... after taking the chunk of oxidized gold/iron out, I’m only able to get a response/ meter reading at a couple of inches with the other small picker ... I’m now getting a +1 reading.... I think this is more in line with what I had expected...

I’ll update this post after I can get out on the creek and do some actual hunting :stupidrb:

I was wondering about that -6 value, wouldn’t that have made it ID as a ferrous target anyway?  But I suppose you had it set to gold 1?

Do you have a little 6 inch coil? If so, try the same test with that.

No 6” coil....it’s supposedly gonna be shipped when Minelab gets them back in stock...the only piece of gold I’m playing with now is about the size of half a BB....

I’m not going out hunting just yet....heck, I’m still using the manual to start it up... :barnie:

ETA... gold 2 seems to work better in the dirt here...at least with the large coil
