Electrician 29
So looking at topo maps and mining symbols: ADIT (Y) symbols are pointed all over the place. Is there a reason for their orientation on maps?
clay 1,053
The long leg of the "Y" indicates the direction of the adit.

chrisski 854
You may have found this by now, but here’s symbols https://pubs.usgs.gov/gip/TopographicMapSymbols/topomapsymbols.pdf You may have also noticed, but the type of symbols you mentioned like adits and tunnels have been removed from the latest USGS maps, so you need to use older maps. I like the ones from the 70s and older. At least you can download them for free from the USGS store. Occasionally I find a good special map.

And yes, I have noticed they have removed them from the latest. Which is baffling.

By removing those features from maps, it will not take long for all of them to be forgotten. Pretty sad. Edited January 23 by GotAU?
