Is 2 grams a day doable?

Recommended Posts

No.

Uses places like RRPC to learn how to mine then go prospecting for a claim of your own.  But don’t think you’ll get one to two grams a day consistently off your claim.

In the whole state of Arizona there’s perhaps five people earning their living consistently off small time mining.  Don’t think you’ll be #6.

The Simple gold was found by the Spanish and early prospectors from when Arizona was just a territory.  Pauline Weaver discovering huge gold nuggets on rich hill and the nearby potato patch with gold nuggets that size.  After that, the easy gold was cleaned up over the next fifty to seventy years by things like the miners and communities that popped up in places like Little San Domingo around the depression time.  Then people had to really work hard to get the gold.  Then the clubs claimed that piece of land.

I once figured my break even point was about $40 a ton for dry washing.  That covered the gas to run the Drywasher for those  36 buckets of dirt, with some left over to cover my gas to get to the site and back.  $40 a ton is a gram give or take depending on gold prices.  A gram a ton of dry wash material is something that can pay to go even bigger, so the $80-$100 you’d want off that gram or two of gold would turn into ounces.

I met a guy who claims he just bought a roadrunner claim, and I have to think why he would want a piece of land that had been so used by so many.

He's gotta Gizmo Industries,Super Duper ,state-of-the-art. Recirculating wash plant/flotation thingamajig:rolleyes:dredge.

Rhetorically, If 2 grams of Au doesn't cut the mustard, then what about 2 oz/ ton of Pd , smelted out of a black  hardrock( iron11%) ore vein? Costs must outweigh the $4000+ yield on that ton.

It is near Weaver Pk, of course., above a drainage that feeds a road culvert:inocent:

2 grams a day is totally doable in the right spot for dry washing.

I did buy a claim.  Certainly has not paid for itself.

I have found more than a gram?  Yes, but consistently, no.

Enough on this claim to make it worth going back each time I head out?  No.

Enough gold on this claim to make me think I’m on to something because it has potential?  Yes.

The "right spot" is the key. I doubt very much if you'll find a "right spot" on a rrpc claim.

Or for that 'right spot' to continue to pan out as the days roll on.  Someone might get lucky for a couple days here and there, but consistently, good luck.

I met a drywasher in Quartzsite about 15 years ago who said he USED TO get about an oz a day.
I also met a guy who was part of the Goodman Mine crew before it became part of the Colorado River Indian Reservation.
Gold is not a renewable resource.

I think you'd be lucky to get one gram in a week's time at some of those rrpc claims.

It's truly looking that way.

I'm 6 claims in, working east from the Vulture claims to the claims in the Morristown area (around Bills place) and out in the Bumble Bee area ... I've even hit to OLD claims north of Lake Pleasant ... EVERY single claim is loaded with TRASH, bullets, lead, soda/beer cans and plain old garbage. I was out today on another claim off I-17 that was chock full of old (modern day) mining garbage; hoses, screens, cans, etc... not to mention all the broken glass and targets on one end of the claim. I worked the area I thought looked good from Google Earth, did a backwards timeline on the area to see what past workings looked like. Yeah, too bad it doesn't show the area was used as a target range for a decade.

Reminded me of this old adage:

"A classic western aphorism commonly attributed to Mark Twain defines a gold or silver claim as a hole in the ground with a liar on top." JDR  is mining the wannabe miners ... or just providing CAMPING locations on the cheap for boomers pining for the good ol days ...

p.s. waiting for Terry to chime in with his glorious 10+ grams per claim stories on ALL the RRPC claims he's been on ...

Smoking, or digging?

Sorry, it's been slow on here, and every time I see this thread title, my 1980's brain kicks in😆

I can't speak to Roadrunner specifically, but here in Southern Nevada, the club claims I have hunted have been a good place to meet people, learn the basics of running equipment, and get a mixture of really bad, and occasionally good advice.

Happy hunting👍

Regards, Kyle

I would say that it is a lot like fishing. 80 % of the fish are in 10% of the water. That said someone that is very skilled can find that 10% of water and consistently make it pay.

And in fishing as in gold mining the 10% moves around. So figure out where they are Or in the case of gold where it is and how to catch it and you have it nailed...
