Help me out please

Take a fine file to it onto a piece of white paper. Smear it across the paper. Note the color.. Or you can use a hammer to crush to a fine powder then smear across the paper.

What this does is give you an idea of what color a powdered sample of your specimens is which is useful for indentifaction.

The black flaky minerals are biotite, the gray, "glassy" mineral is quartz, the yellow/brassy colored minerals that pepper the sample is pyrite and the flat yellow minerals are either muscovite or phlogopite.  You are the proud owner of a schist (metamorphic rock).
