Dakota Slim 1,067
It was just pointed out that the GPAA didn't renew 4 claims at Gold Basin. Quote: "The annual BLM fees on those 4 claims were $5,280. I'm not privy to the GPAA reasons but I imagine that has something to do with it." Question for royalty proponents: How much of a royalty do you suppose would be fair after paying all those BLM fees?

At no time has anyone suggested that claim holders, weekenders or prospectors be subject to royalties. 1

Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Tom Udall (D-N.M.), Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Jeffrey Merkley (D-Ore.), Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Edward Markey (D-Mass.) wrote to the Energy and Natural Resources Committee leadership requesting a hearing on the Hardrock Mining and Reclamation Act to provide a forum for states, environmental groups, and industry to discuss mining reform."The bill requires companies to pay royalties for the first time for the ability to extract mineral resources like gold, silver, and copper from public lands..." They also have employees who pay income taxes, property taxes and local and state sales taxes. The whole point of this thread is that some, including those proposing these royalties, think taking money away from one person and giving it to another (redistributing wealth) and creating layer upon layer of bureaucracy is how the US government should operate. Others think cutting taxes and regulations help businesses grow, innovate and create private sector jobs.

I want my royalties. Thanks Bob You just proved my point. Nothing is yours. You simply want a piece of someone else's pie, and you want to hire some bureaucrats to go get it for you. Nobody is asking for a cut of the wild game you take off public property. Nobody wants a piece of the bottles or cactuses you have collected and nobody has insisted that you go clean up the broken pieces of glass from the bottles you shot up out there in the NM outback although I think that would be a good idea.

Why would your job be in jeopardy? The one of the most fundamental aspects of business is supply and demand. If there is demand, someone will supply it. I just find it hard to believe that those at the very top (1%) would just close up shop if their profit margins were taxed by a few percent. All the other extraction industries pay something and they remain in business and profitable. 11 hours ago, nugget108 said: Why not take something that I didn't work for? Funny Luke, according to your past comments, your company or "trade" buys what my company "takes"!! Kind of ironic huh? And my top portion of my comment was directed towards the new SOCIALIST type programs we are about to enter into here in the next few weeks. Make you a deal Luke, ill send you a picture of my unemployment check if you send me a picture of yours!!!!
