I agree Adam. Except the topics you suggested don't have the emotional drama that some people tend to thrive on. And as we all can see, simply banning a topic doesn't make it go away.

The problem is a lot of guys here think any comment that does not follow the far right narrative is "politically slanted".

If you criticize our president's bizarre statements and behavior it is "politically slanted". If you point out how foolish the protesters are it is "politically slanted". If you believe the overwhelming consensus of the scientific community on many topics you are "politically slanted".

Then the peanut gallery starts defending a partisan political narrative. That is when the insults start. And it is all about protecting a belief system and protesting any opinion that does not fit within those narrow boundaries.

There is only one group of partisans represented here. No one has ever expressed leftist views. There are no leftists in this group. There have only been disagreements with the hard right partisan views.

Whenever those views are challenged you guys think you have to protect your precious ideology from liberals. But there are no liberals.

This is only a "partisan" issue for the partisans. They think any opinion that does not square with their beliefs must be rebutted. The rest of us must walk on eggshells to keep from offending their tender sensibilities. If you post anything that does not mesh with the hard right narrative they come out of the woodwork to attack you for being partisan. It is completely ridiculous.

I agree moderators need to nip it in the bud when someone escalates. But they don't. And you either have to take the attacks or fight. So we fight. (I like fights!)

I say we let topics that are headed that way go unmoderated. If someone gets butthurt reading it just click your finger. It goes away. Some topics are born to be bad.

Let people discuss. And let them fight over it. Why not? If it gets down to name calling and nastiness ban their azz for a few days. No problem.

No one is tramping on topics with political crap here. Popular topics tend to go out of bounds and wind up there. It's just natures way. Just spank the ones that get nasty and go on with life.

If we cant even talk about this virus (or many other non political topics) in real terms without offending the usual few then what good is it?

If we can't disagree with outlandish politically serving lies without being branded a "socialist" there is no point in discussing anything but the weather. And if Trump says it is sunny and the rain is falling we won't be able to discuss that either.

How about we discuss prospecting? Maybe even electronic prospecting for gold? Leave the rest the rest of the crap for the comment section of the political news columns...This is a forum for gold and prospecting, not politics!!! Go attack somebody else, we are all supposed to be friends with one common interest.

I am now officially sorry that at first I agreed with the need for a separate forum. Not knowing all the history of this subject. It has turned into shittscreekstorm  ( made up word).I for one will no longer read their posts. Everyone can get there fill of the virus on the TV or I,m sure FB and all those other things that I do not belong to. I joined and read and post on the  forum for one reason! I love gold , rocks , metal detecting , fossils, old coins, stories about any off them, the people I have met and the things they have told me in  73 years since I was 12 and started finding agates, petrified wood and arrowheads in my fathers gravel pit in the Trinity River bottoms of Dallas , TX

Now I have attacked you?  When?

Now we can't discuss the topic of this thread? I thought the discussion was that we needed a new forum for discussions JUST LIKE THIS ONE.

We have a gold forum. And an electronic prospecting forum. A rock forum too. This one is the Prospectors Lounge and despite the written policy we sometimes veer a bit off track. I know you disapprove and I'm sorry that bothers you.

Skip can handle it. You can be his helper though! Tell him your issues and if he feels I have sinned he will spank me. (I like to be spanked!)

Over on those other forums for gold and detecting you won't find any political stuff. Not from me anyway. Ever. Here you will find my unbiased opinions and you may have to figure out how to deal with them through your partisan political lens.

Or...

You can click your little finger and it all disappears from view and you don't have to worry about it at all! The internet is crazy like that you know.

Recently, I was able to escape the lockdown and meet up with a couple buddies for some nuggetshooting.

We all had to drive separate vehicles and make sure we didn't shake hands.

We walked for a short distance.

A couple guys found a few and one guy just wasn't as lucky.

There were stories of how life had changed so much lately.  Concerns about what it meant for their livelihoods and families.

How a series of bad decisions led us to where we are now.....

I guess I better stop there before it gets political.

Luke

It's great to read factual, first hand stories about prospecting. Some people pretend to know everything, others have experience and don't have to pretend. It's nice to have you back posting your real life adventures. Thanks.

He "helps me out" with definitions too Luke. He will "assist" whenever he thinks it might serve his interests.

He tries to help Skip out too. He points out things that he feels are an infraction of the rules whenever he disagrees with the content. He repeatedly posts the forum rules in those cases. He is strangely silent when those that share his views do the same.

He is just "helping out" and is ready to "assist" whenever he thinks it is needed.

Mac is our handy helper around here for sure!

Pointing out your behavioral tendencies is not an attack.

More like a critique.

There's a difference.

I agree wholeheartedly! It should just be about Gold and Alcohol! Not necessary in that order . . .

Actually, and more specifically, it's a compliment. Or would be If it were sincere. Which it's not. It's just more sarcastic belittling. But I have a novel idea which I invite you to consider and it just might help promote good will on the forum.

Let's not point out each others "behavioral tendencies", Let's not feel that we have to criticize or "critique" each other. Then hopefully, the"difference", if there is any just won't matter anymore because we are concentrating on what the forum was intended for.

OK this topic is now locked, I'm trying to review the other locked topic and clean it up to an acceptable level of political info on the virus so I can unlock it but if I have to also keep up with moderating this topic I can't do both, not sure if I will have the time to come back and clean this topic up and unlock it or not.

Just an FYI if everyone can't stop posting their opinions on actual politicians instead of just basic political info only concerning the virus for information purposes only and not opened to be dissected or criticized I'm not so sure if either topic will remain unlocked!!

I know many will think this violates free speech, but if any more political content is going to be allowed to be posted that the limit!!

This topic was created by the OP to pose a valid question/suggestion, and as such any replies that stay on topic are allowed, what is not allowed is actual political content, personal attacks and or criticism of other members and their opinions.

So feel free to post concerning why or why not to have a Political Forum, but keep it on topic, no political opinions or political news, no off topic subject matter and no personal attacks!

The OP messaged me asking that I just delete this topic because after reading the many replies he realized why we no longer allow political content and regretted starting this topic, I told him no that this topic needed to stay if only to inform other members who haven't been on the forum as long to know exactly why there's no political content allowed!

I've have cleaned up this topic a bit to remove off-topic content as well as political content and most of the personal attacks, but I have left a small amount of such content to serve as an example of exactly why Bill and the staff here voted years ago to not allow political content any longer, I may after while restore some of those posts as more examples of why we have the rules we have, but for now the content I have removed would be just fuel on a fire that I'm trying to control.

Also I left a couple of posts where it was suggested that all members should for lack of a better word "moderate" other members and point it out when it is seen that they have violated forum rules, I'm glad that they would like to help moderate the forum....BUT that is not going to work, it will only bring about animosity from other members, you also have to be completely unbiased to moderate other members which is very hard to be for most people, so I'm stating now that if that happens the post will be deleted.

For those that would like to be a moderator,  I would suggest that they first and foremost moderate what they post and not worry so much about what someone else posted, we have several good Moderators on the staff here so we're good for now, if we have a moderating spot open up I'm sure Bill will be more than happy to consider those that have learned to first moderate themselves!

This topic is now unlocked.

Rest assured, there is NO way to maintain a political thread on this forum without a constant, offensive clash of hate and discontent.

Simply because liberals refuse to hear the facts and Conservatives refuse to listen to liberals.

No doubt about this guy's motives here huh?

The very first post after unlocking the topic. And the usual suspects are petting him behind the ears for doing it.

It is like the virus is making some folks sick and some others stupid.

The usual suspects? You are the only usual suspect. And that's usually being rude and disrespectful to anybody that has a differing opinion to yours. There's nobody petting anybody behind the ears for anything. The only people to respond to the above post are you and FlakMagnet. Why not  stop posting hate and start posting something positive? Who gives a crap about this new guy's post? Do you get out and do any prospecting? I would like to hear about it!

The only reason I visit this forum is to read about people prospecting because I don't have time do get out. My kids are at the age that my time is spent raising them and keeping them involved in sports, school, and being kind to others regardless of their political beliefs. I wish we could go out prospecting all the time. Yes, I want them to love what I love, but won't force it on them. So until they are away at college, reading this forum to keep connected to the hobby is all there is. I wish I could post about my recent adventures, but unfortunately that will have to wait a few more years. I found a lot of gold before I had kids and I will find a lot of gold once they are out the of house on their own. The attached picture is some of the gold I found with the gpx4500. That was a killer machine, especially with the 9x14 elliptical coil! At least one of the nuggets in the picture is in an article I wrote for the ICMJ several years ago.

Good luck, be safe, and take care...
