Flyspeck with the Equinox 800

Recommended Posts

Went back to a wash with a small stretch of ragged bedrock today, where I had found a .3 gram picked with the GPX last week. I scraped and scuffed, and got just a hint of a break in the threshold. I fiddled around with a screwdriver,  broke out a couple little chunks of bedrock, and found this tiny little speck. Once I got it in the scoop, it was nice and loud.

For anyone wondering if the Equinox can keep up with the Gold monster, on this target, I'd say yes.

Back at it tomorrow!

Regards, Kyle

Congrats !!  :thumbsupanim

Using one detector to find a spot and then going back with another can be very rewarding.  :head:  :yesss:

Now you have some 'insight' on what to listen for when using the EQ800 for gold.

Nice work.

True enough, Luke. This is the second time the Equinox has batted cleanup for the 4500. Last time was a .7 gram piece with the GPX, went back with the Equinox the next day, and pulled out 3 little pickers about 6" away.

The two machines pair nicely.

No kidding. Just like the Gold Monster, it will drive me nuts with tiny bits of junk. But every once in a while, it turns out to be gold, and not another #8 birdshot...

I know what you mean about the tiny little trash bits and birdshot. I have a 25 year old American Gold Striker VLF that still works great on the little stuff. I'll use it along with my GPX 5000 in the spring when I get back to the Arizona Gold country for a few months.

Nice that you can find small gold with those machines. Any gold is good! As for being a flyspeck, even a .3 gram piece is 4.5 grains. Not quite a flyspeck but maybe small for those machines? Never used either one.

That .3 gram piece is about $15 today!

No complaints from me, no matter how small the piece! I may get a chance to try a Gold But 2 next week. Interested to see how they compare. If the GB coil has more edge sensitivity, that would be a big benefit. Learning a new machine never hurts either!
