Mike Furness
I rolled a rock out of the wash ... and out popped this little guy. Very translucent and had a body about an inch long! One of his kind nailed me a few years back ... glad there wasn't a repeat of his relatives effort! If I am not mistaken this is called a 'Little Brown' by some but its official name is a 'Bark Scorpion'.
LowPoint
You are right Mike,... and every one that I come across, I rename it (to put it mildly),.... and call it: "SMACK!!!" I have Zero-tolerance for them, and pretty-much react instantly. I also have been tagged by one of them when I was about ten, and have had many, -many close calls with them when moving rocks and boulders. I always wear gloves with my fingers covered. I especially keep my eyes open for them when I am moving semi-damp grass, leaf clutter, or dried moss out of a creak bed; they just thrive there. They are just one more thing out in the Arizona desert that pokes, bites, scratches, claws, and chews on ya to make your outing a bit more ... "interesting".... Old Tom
Mike, do I see a coin or the back end of a shotgun shell at around 7:00 o'clock in the picture? I got stung about three times last year. Suddenly they have appeared on my property after not having a one for over the forty nine years I have lived here. I have kept bees here for thirty years and have never used any insecticides on my property. I guess I'll have to find the nest and use a little poison on them. I expect bees to sting but those scorptsects ambush you in a handful of grass or weeds. Old Tom

Nope ... just a flat rock of which there were many here thanks to the schist bedrock. I saw that as well when I was digging.
Hoser John
I sat on the last one of the CENSORED nasty critters I saw. NO FUN in a bathtub of ice and tequila for pain-John
AaronBazor
Thanks for the reminder that I'll be wearing gloves for my trip next week digging in the desert dirt and rocks....
