Uncle Ron
This is an amazing chunk of gold, found 3 days ago (Oct. 23) walking along a river in Ohio where it was eyeballed on the surface of a river bottom! Estimated gold value alone is almost $900,000...Add collector's value and it's probable value is in the $3.5 million range! A beautiful find of a lifetime! Cheers, Unc If true...WOW ...but also it wouldn't be worth almost $900,000 in current gold valve...more like $816,480, this is because the person who made the video figured 40 lbs X 16 ounces, and not 14.58 troy ounces to a regular pound which is how gold is weighted and sold in troy ounces,....but who's counting when it comes to such a big nugget, what's $80,000 or so. Also if true this would be the largest surviving gold nugget found in the western hemisphere and would be worth a fortune, it's bigger than the Boot of Cortez,. I find it hard to believe that such a big nugget was found in Ohio since all gold there is glacial gold brought down by glaciers...but I guess there could be some big nugget that survived the grinding trip down from Canada....but 40 pounds is hard to believe a piece of gold that big could make the 100s of miles trip under the weight of a glacier and not get ground down to smaller nuggets or dust.
Morlock
I'm very skeptical of this. Time will tell.
chrisski
40 LBS Gold Nugget. From the YouTube Channel: "Found in Ohio on October 23rd, 2019 during a walk at the river. This was 4ft below the water and very visible looking straight down at it, approximate weight is 40 lbs making this worth $896k in gold alone. I suspect this is from a volcano considering the texture it has. Do not bother come looking for this because it's long gone in a hidden place you will never find." Edit: The pic is from the video of the 40 LBS nugget, but reminds me of the spray painted gold rock I used to drive over on the way up to my claim by the monarch wash. BMc
I am waiting for the certification that it's real gold of the purist quality, and after that often comes the (phony) inflated appraisal that establishes the insurable value. Then, possibly, (perhaps likely), the insurance policy; closely followed by the theft, or mysterious disappearance of the item. It's not as easy now as it used to be, but it does still happen. I hope I'm wrong.

Relichunter2016
Fake as heck, plus check the YouTube poster ..highly unlikely more like lets get some followers. . Could it be brass as gold (18K ) would not get porosity. Brass will oxidize and create gass bubbles. mn90403
I was in Australia when a couple of big nuggets were found while 'walking the dog' as they said. One was found by someone who went out and told the local paper and that began a 'who exactly found it' report that caused the kid without a mining licence to deferr to the dad who didn't have one either and then it turned out to not be on public land and it was found at the excavation of a housing project and the land owners claimed it and ... The other nugget was just stated to have been found on forest land and the finder had the right miner's permit before anyone was told anything. No problems anticipated. If this is a real nugget, (the only posting for it is on YouTube 'the most trusted name in news!') there will be an ownership battle when someone tries to increase the collector value by telling exactly where it was found. Rivers have owners too! Mitchel
Bedrock Bob
A 40 lb. chunk of vessicular gold from the volcanos of Ohio. Revealed to the world on YouTube. Nothing curly about that story at all. All you have to do is believe. Or not. Just like so many other imaginary things being peddled to "believers" these days. If you close your eyes, stick your fingers in your ears and ignore the obvious it can be as real as you want it to be. Most folks these days are satisfied with pretending. I am not sure that "real" matters anymore as long as there is a peer group that will insist lies are truth and fabrications are real. Some men put a higher price on support for their fantasies than wealth. For guys like this a spray painted rock and a YouTube video is worth more than a real 40 lb. nugget and takes zero effort. For those willing to "believe" it fills an emotional gap that makes them happy too. We need a special section here for the dreamers and their believers. We have many more of them posting than guys who can keep it between the rails of reality. They need a place to pretend. Like a fantasy forum where brass can be gold, slag can be meteorites, outcrops are carved poodles and quartz can be diamonds. 7
chrisski
All I can think is since that 40 LBS nugget was sitting on the surface, imagine the nuggets spread from there to the bedrock that a dredge could get. 1

mn90403
Ohio was once on the equator and in a shallow sea. I have been to the state park that has many of the fossils from that time: Welcome to the 390 million-year-old shallow tropical sea, located 30° south of Earth’s equator. During the middle of the Devonian Period it covered what is now the Falls of the Ohio State Park and much of the eastern United States. Discover the fascinating ancient creatures whose fossil remains can be seen and touched on the fossil beds today. https://www.fallsoftheohio.org/portfolio/interpretive-center/ancient-sea/ https://www.fallsoftheohio.org/portfolio/interpretive-center/

Red_desert
It would be all over the news, if was for real. However, there are people who dredge for gold in Ohio and met one before who said they get pickers. I just found this link. Article looks like a news channel, so will archive it here. "Ohio was never gold country, not like the legendary strikes in Colorado or California, but it has always had small amounts. "That's placer gold," said Buckeye Gold Prospectors Association spokesman Jerry Cline. "That means that it's gold that's been brought down by the glaciers through Ohio." Whether it is gold flakes, or the occasional nugget, the high price makes the search attractive for many people, Revish reported. A rush of people has joined the Gold Prospectors Association of America. "Their membership went from 30,000 to 45,000 members in one year," said Buckeye Gold Prospectors Association member Patrick O'Masters. O'Masters said he and his fellow prospectors see this as an outdoor hobby, like fishing, but with a financial kick. "If you want to find gold, go where it's already been found," O'Masters said. "You don't always find gold with black sand, but you always find black sand where you find the gold." Prospector Dennis Staskiewicz found a nugget in Circleville. "The river was fairly dirty," Staskiewicz said. "There was garbage in it. I didn't think I'd find anything, and that was my best find in Ohio in 10 years." It takes a trained eye to know what to look for. Prospectors have found gemstones like garnet and amethyst, but it is gold that keeps them searching. "Gold is a tangible asset," O'Masters said. "You can't print more of it." You need a landowner's permission to search for gold on private property but the Gold Prospectors Association has access to 18,000 sites around the country, some of which have richer deposits than here in Ohio." https://www.10tv.com/article/gold-prospectors-hope-strike-it-rich-ohio Edited October 31, 2019 by Red_desert

Red_desert
I once read in an old GPAA mining guide, about a quartz rock found in Ohio containing a few ounces of gold, but it probably was in northern Ohio.
Red_desert
Here is a PDF from Ohio DNR-Geological Survey, on gold in Ohio. You will need to click full screen at top, then fit to width for easy reading. The scrolling control on mouse moves from page 1-2 and back, but stays on page you go full screen. It mentions gold the size of wheat grains and very rare nuggets the size of a pea. http://minerals.ohiodnr.gov/portals/minerals/pdf/industrial minerals/geof09.pdf Edited November 1, 2019 by Red_desert

Bedrock Bob
If I found a five gallon bucket of what they are finding in Ohio I would wash a hog with it. There is no way that nugget is real. It is just a prop to get clicks. Gold does not have gas bubbles in it. Glacial gold looks nothing like that at all. It is nothing more than a plated or painted chunk of something else. Any prospectors could prove this in five seconds with a hands-on inspection. That is why it is on YouTube. It is only visual and can only fool those who are taken in by the sight of it. Experienced prospectors can take one look and tell it is fake. But the overwhelming majority of folks have no idea what they are looking at so they "believe" because they are expected to. As soon as my order for a dozen cans of gold Krylon come in I will reveal the 80 lb. nugget I found in the garbage behind the casino in El Paso. We can all be amazed and read the reports of people flocking to search the dumpsters at Denney's restaurant across the street.
