Wisconsin rocks and minerals (img heavy)

Recommended Posts

Some interesting things can be found here...

Anorthoclase feldspar (moonstone) from Stettin pluton in Stettin WI, fluorescent sodalite in syenite (glacial deposit, foid syenite), geodes and agates, incredible looking chert nodules formed in limestone as well as the state rock red granite. Just thought I'd share some of what I have found recently.

Fuss,

Did you find these near the lake? I found some chert on my trip to Middleton and was curious if these are found more near the lake (with the banding) or everywhere?

Yes all the cherts/agates/fluorescent syenites came from the beach od lake Michigan.

Hi. I have a few of what my friend said are red jasper. Look just like the red/gray one you have above.

Found in Taylor's Falls Minnesota. Was that also found in Michigan?  Just curious.

Thank you!
