Curious Hold for 20 Years, any ideas on what it could be??

Recommended Posts

This was found here in Kansas about 20 years ago.  Its been sitting on a shelf ever since.  I am quite curious to know if it is a meteor/meteorite by chance.  Haven't had any testing done on it, since I would have to sell a kidney pretty much to afford one, but have been informed by a college professor that it may be worth looking into.  it does not attract to a magnet, or mine is just not good enough. I'm just not sure.  Any ideas??  I can get more photos easily if needed.  Thank you for any input given.

Absolutely an agate. It was formed in a gas pocket so the round side goes down. The flat side is the level of the silica being deposited since the gas pocket would have been almost spherical. You can see the lines in the agate on the top edge which are referred to as a “water line agate”. Based on the color it would also be called a Carnelian Agate.
