The rock looks like a metamorphic rock to me. So no, I would not think that would be a rhyolite.
A rhyolite is a light colored volcanic rock. A basalt is a dark colored volcanic rock. From the photos you have a metamorphic rock.

It maybe after the weekend before you get many replies, there's a NuggetShooter fall outing taking place this weekend and many of those attending will get there a couple of days early, meaning that some are already out in the field for the outing and may not be back on the forum until after the weekend.
I'm with Bob on this one. Just from the photos, it looks like an impure meta-quartzite to me.
