most important, family health. drink only good water with tablespoon of raw apple cider vinegar per gallon. only organic foods, meat- fish once per week. use only unrefined virgin coconut oil for cooking. pure maple syrup instead of suger. money you save on junk foods will more than save on organic foods. over dress in summertime in the desert with dark colored cloths. they hold your moister, which cools you.

over 74 and wake up feeling younger each day, back in me 20's.

don't worry be happy

You and me both AlwaysDirty .

I won't say that I have did it because I always had my 24 years in the USN & USCG  to supply my having fun trying. I have always been  a collector of rocks, fossils and such. To me its the people ,places and things that made it worthwhile. Sure  there was more than once I had to do real work and I didn't start full time until my kids where off doing there own thing. I will say that my worst day digging for rocks, fossils, old bottles, etc was far better than working 12 hour shifts for 14 days on an offshore oil rig or bouncing around on tugs and supply vessels in the Gulf of Mexico.  Or running your own business as an escort safety car for oversize, over length trucks for 11 hours straight  on  I-10, I-40-, I-5 from Florida to Seattle , Brownsville to Canada , I ran 14 states in one month and you had to deal with LEO's and trucking Co. A-------. all the time. Sure it paid good money , over $100,000 a year with no IC tax but at what cost to health and having a real life ? But it got me back in Baja gold prospecting  , Alaska, Mexico, Canada and most of the west looking for that kind of stuff. So I would have told him to go for it except for him having kids dependent on him. When my youngest got old enough to pick her path in life I told her its up to you now ,me and your mama and cat are going to go play so we did !

I hope it turned out well for him.

You could hunt full time if: you have another steady income, and single or have a wife that doesn't mind camping, I tried it back in the late 80's and early 90's, did alright the first year, had a motor home and a pickup truck and a 5 inch dredge, stayed at Bagby on the Merced river, and was averging a couple of OZ.s a day, Gold was just over a the $200.00 an oz mark. Then everything got bad, lost my income and gold started to get less and less, oz's a day. finally went to work at Bagby, running the store and campground, that lasted for three years, I had two days a week off, and I dredged and detected, finally got married again, and the wife and I went back on the road for Arrow Trucking, then they went bellie up, and I had my first heart attack, that was the end of my trucking, Been service connected for agent orange ever since, 11 stents, a 5 x's bypass and diabetes on top of that. But I was still detecting for gold, and did really good for a few years, but now, I can't do that. Grubstake

Grubstake,  me and you are in the same boat but have you checked out the newest DRONE technology ? Seems to me if they can make them deliver packages and all the stuff that the new ones can do they could make one that could carry a small Vac-Pac or  a big coil  metal detector with a robot arm  or a small robot that could dig up the targets !  Just think of all the possibility's. Claim papers ? " We don't need any stinking claim papers".. Maybe I  am inhaling too much hand sanitizer? . Have   A EXcellent day!

I know this is a late reply to an old post,  but if anyone else is thinking of doing this, I would think that turning it into a reality show about how a greenhorn family turns in their normal life for full-time prospecting would make lots more money than any gold you find!

Why not? It would probably be better than some of the stuff they have on  TV now. I am watching Bering Sea Gold right now and it seems to be popular but I can't relate to it. It has been 30 years since  I visited Nome and it was only for a few hours on a MedEvac so it sure looks different , the houses are painted for one thing and the only gold dredge operation then was a large ship a way off shore that I saw  If you could use one of those smaller rigs in the Salmon you might do well but the powers that be would never allow it now days.
