Terry Soloman
I honestly never gave my family history much thought until a year ago, when my 39-year-old daughter asked me about our roots. I had no idea! Well, I went to Ancestry .com and pulled out a few old family bibles, and in the last year I've made some progress. We came here in the early 1600s (Massachusetts), fought Indians; Redcoats; fought 'em again in 1812; and fought each other in the Civil war. I just ordered my DNA kit, so that I can finalize my application to the Sons of the American Revolution. Pretty cool thing to hand down to my kids and grandkids! Terry Soloman
As you know I have been researching my Family Tree - It's Hard!!! I had to go back to square one after making some rookie mistakes, but now I am comparing information from three different sources, including FamilySearch.org, the Mormon Genealogy service. Here is what I know FOR SURE as of right now. My family qualifies for the Son's / Daughter's of the American Revolution. • Re: John Burch (1750-1818) Rev Pvt VA - My 5th Great Grandfather. Sonoran Dave
That looks like a lot of work Terry! You're making progress at least. I had started down that road myself, but eventually gave it up. I did find the ancestor that came over from Ireland in 1830 something. I didn't go past that because of the effort involved in tracking down the Irish records. Apparently the O'Reilly clan is quite numerous and by that time were scattered all over Ireland, and were not just in the ancestral homeland in the modern county of Cavan. The record I did find didn't list a specific place of origin for my ancestor...just that he was from Ireland. I guess I'm not suprised. Being from Ireland wasn't a source of pride in those days, and the Irish were basically treated like garbage.

Terry Soloman
I continue to learn, and as I get help from folks here, and on other forums, I correct mistakes, and cut down on wild goose chases. No wonder the professionals want $2,500.00 just to get started! I just threw away 37-hours of research, and $15.00 in copies, because I made a rookie mistake and had to go back to square four! Embarrassing and a bummer! Thank you all for the emails and calls - I REALLY appreciate the help. Here is something cool I found on my Great Grandfather, a Spanish American War veteran!
