My kid thinks he found a meteorite...do you?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My son is having fun 'testing' it and I promised I'd post here and I'll read him the responses.

He's asking if you can come to our house or send some scientists today if possible.  He said you're allowed to come on the condition that you acknowledge he found it fair and square :)

Attaching a few pics I snapped.  This is non-magnetic but from my luddite research this could be fusion crust or slag.

Thanks, ryan

I'm not a meteorite aficionado, but I think it's fantastic to see a parent who manages to get a child interested in the sciences (or maths, or languages, or small engine repair, or knitting -- anything other than rap and those blasted video games).  Way to go, ryanworking.

Did you do a streak test? Where are you located?

Meteorite or not, you're both doing it right!

File a small window in it and do a streak test also on an unglazed bit of ceramic (inside top plate of toilet) ... Cheers, Unc

A statistic that helps describe how rare meteorites are that everyone can understand and really helps drive it home to kids: Meteorites are more rare (by weight) on Earth than gold or diamonds.  Keep on encouraging him!

Mighty nice of you Fred to make that offer. :party-smiley-027[1]:

My guess It may be a fossilized dinosaur egg.

So, it is July 2 and still not a word from Ryanworking….or his son.  I hope they are ok.

All I want is confirmation they received the package...is that too much to expect?

oh well

fred

Fred according to Ryan's profile he hasn't visited the forum since June 19th, so there could be something in their life that has distracted them from the more trival things in life, hopefully all is well.

I'm thinking he realized how rare they are and usually where there is one there is more?
