wildwest22
Hello everyone, my 6 year old son and I found this the other day. I believe it is a meteorite. frank c
I have a question for you sir. What makes you think you have a "Palasite" type meteorite ?
wildwest22
Comparing to pictures of other pallasite meteorites it looks very similar. It also looks like it has fusion crust. I could be totally wrong though. Do you believe I am wrong? Edited January 26, 2018 by wildwest22
frank c
I can see an approximate size by the pic of it in your hand. Have you weighed it on a gram scale ? I would be curious as to what it weighs.
wildwest22
I weighed it with a scale at work and it’s at least 2 pounds. Probably closer to three.
frank c
Are you familiar with the basic tests you can do at home to give yourself a bit more of an idea ?
wildwest22
I am familiar with some of them. It is very magnetic but I’ve not had a chance to do any other tests. I thought it might be slag at first, but in my opinion it looks more like a meteorite than slag. Again that’s just my opinion.
frank c
Take a file and expose an edge on it, let us know what you "see" at that point.

Strapped
Now that you have a window filed in it, you should take it to a pawn shop or jewelry store that has an XRF gun. Have them test the window you filed and if there is nickel present at roughly 7% it will most likely be a meteorite. Good luck!
wildwest22
Do you think it has all the signs, looks wise?
Strapped
Several months ago I saw some pictures of the recent pallasite find in Kenya...Sericho. A few of those pictures looked similar to yours. The chances are slim but it is worth checking out!
wildwest22
I am afraid it’s just slag after looking at some more pictures, and seeing the window.
