New year and the skunk is outta here!

Recommended Posts

Well....barely .17g :25r30wi:

Found about 10' from the buggy and was the first target of the day in an area not known for gold.

Also found a strange tarnished silver looking piece of something. It's not foil, but heavier and much stronger. Under a loupe it seems to consist of several tiny ribbons spiraled around and twisted in a random fashion.

Weather was fantastic with temps pushing the high 70's. :thumbsupanim

WTG Dave! :wee:

Nice piece of gold. Bet it would look cool under a macro lense.

Bonus...you may have found a new spot to detect that hasnt been hit.

Do you still have some of that nitric to test that dark piece with?

Congrats.

Congrats Dave !!  :thumbsupanim

While it might be small, the character of that nugget is nice.  Like Tom said, a few macro shots would probably look pretty cool.

First of the year and hopefully not your last....  :4chsmu1:

It's interesting that the 'mystery' piece is shaped like a question mark.

I didn't see that! I have no idea what it is. I'm assuming it's some sort of human garbage, but it was the only piece of "trash" in the whole wash. Maybe some wadded up shaving off an aircraft?

Don't get rid of the "buggy" its yer "lucky" charm, Congrats!

Nope! I think the buggy will be around awhile. I'm constantly tinkering with it, but it is a blast to drive:D

Nice nugget Dave and the funky thing looks to be some sort of metal deposited by a range steer, darn critters chew up and swallow certain types of metal they can find for some reason. Try swinging over cow piles when ya walk by one you'll be surprised how many have a signal in them.

I’ve got a small pile of whatever that gray metal is from detecting near my house. The 2300 will hit pretty good on that stuff and some times I find it as a vein deposit in bed rock and I have to use a rock hammer to break it free. I’m planning and taking them in to UofA and see if they can I’d them? Not sure if they are native lead or some kind of silver lead mix? There is uranium deposits near by so I’m leaning more towards lead. Some pieces have really good crystal structure and others look like river worn nuggets.

I found a bit of native silver approx 3 miles from where this came from. It looked different though, with a more brown tarnish on it. I think native lead specimens are pretty rare, most of time is with silver in the form of galena. It would be interesting to see what you find out!

No, the vial tipped over and leaked out on a shelf. :tisk-tisk:

Nice one, Dave!  As others said, that gold has some character just waiting for the macro lens.  And I also agree that the gold is SO sweet when it is found in an area not known for gold.  Probably why you had the skunk for a while ... but now it is paying off!!
