Tucson Dave
Hi everybody. I found this piece in Tubac, Arizona today. Thought it was green obsidian, but what is up with that metal nipple? The white discoloration does not wash off and did not come off with light polish. When wet it turns darker green and quite pretty. Figured it must be a broken piece of some machine or structure and not a rock. Anyone think they know know for sure? Au Seeker
Welcome to the forum Dave, I have moved your topic to the proper forum section, the section you posted in is for new members to introduce themselves and in the section I moved your topic too will get you more answers to your question on this piece. Look like glass or slag to me and the metal could be from a smelt and was trapped in the slag.
d_day
I agree with AU Seeker. Piece appears to most likely be glass slag with a bit of the melt stuck to it. It's not at all uncommon to find slag, even in the middle of nowhere. Edited October 29, 2017 by d_day
