Looks like he was posing ....many never saw daylight.
I guess Some lived good lives, other not so. I heard many went blind.
My grandpa told me that when in the mines for years that when they got out they still kept their heads lowered as not to hit the roof when walking. Also they all had problems with their eyes when in normal light.
That hoese is HUGE..wonder if it was a -pardon spelling-klysdale? Looks like he was smiling for the photo too.John
