Yep. We'll see how close I can get.

My Grandpa had model planes and a toolbox full of the little engines. I got my finger whacked a few times starting the little things. I don't remember if he did the control line thing or not. I do remember him letting them just fly free. He had a big pasture out back though...those things can go a surprising distance :)

I remember when my brother and I were young, my Dad bought a little fly by fishing line wire airplane. We took it to the school yard one evening and Dad kept explaining how he was going to fly it first and we were to learn his art of expertise. He added the fuel and fired it up and around and around it went 2 1/2 times before it crashed into the ground. We gathered up the pieces got into the truck and drove home, never to mention the subject again until now 58 years later. Later on when I got bored I would take that little engine out, add a little fuel, spin the prop and watch it run. Dad must of heard it one day cause that little engine disappeared, never to be heard again. Old memories.  :4chsmu1:

Pop flew a medical evac plane in Germany during WW2. I don't think he could afford his own plane, so he didn't get to fly much after the war. I think he missed it and model airplanes were as close as he could get. There were pictures of airplanes, airplane calenders and all kinds of aviation related stuff all over the place. It was cool growing up around him. :worship:

Awww man....that blows!

Might as well do it all while you got it apart. It's enough of a pain in the azz to do it once. Doing it again would suck even more.

I only tacked it until all the pieces were in. If you try and weld it before, that thin tubing will distort. Amazing how much it moves with some heat. It's time to fully weld it now. I'll gain a lb of filler rod and a few lbs for mounting tabs, paint and whatnot. Should still come in under 40...thats fine with me. :yesss:

Yep,  You can Forget Rocket Engines.   If they do have them there just the little AA or C size.    No more D and F.  Got's to make your own of those too.

CAn ultralights have rockets to aid takeoff:Just_Cuz_06:?

I don't see why not...other it wouldn't be very practical.

Speaking of rocket engines though, I was at Hobby Lobby yesterday morning and they had D and E size engines.

Homefire, if they feel rough...change em out. I made a press once from a bottle jack, I beam, and a couple of chunks of heavy chain. It was a bit ungainly, it did work well though.

:evil1:I know, but you could do it. It would make it heavier , though, due to  flame proofing materials and added stress to the airframe.

Resonant Frequency on them is like 180 - 280 Hz, Depending on size.  Like a shot gun going off that many times a second. LOL   No Stealth Mode flying.   Oh Hitler used them for his Buzz Bombs hense the Name Buzz bomb.  Cheap, so easy to Make the Slave Labor couldn't mess them up.   Dependable and Worked.

Elegantly simple. Makes perfect sense to use them for that purpose.

I just had a visit from Tempe Dave on his way home from Bill's outing. He gave me a set of blueprints for a Pietenpol Air Camper that he had saved up his wages for, back in the 60's!

Cool design thats been around since the late 1920's and still has an active following.

Check out the drawing date in the second pic...

Is it too early to start thinking of building a second plane?

Thanks Dave!! :worship:
