Bluesman Posted September 18, 2016 Share Posted September 18, 2016 (edited) Has anyone ever come across a rock like this one.It has many shapes with flat surfaces on it.Very dark brown in color and dence in weight.Has a few good surface cracks on it.The width is about 6" to 7" and height 4"to 5".Found in North East Connecticut in very rockie area.Have not done a hardness test yet or check specific gravity but going to today. 4meter Posted September 19, 2016 Share Posted September 19, 2016 Looks like a nice water worn pebble to me, lots of chemical weathering on its surface. Is there anyplace on it that shows a fresh surface? Is it a mineral or a rock fragment? If its a rock fragment, a hardness test is not of much help. Also, you will need a fresh surface to gain the hardness of the sample and not its weathered surface, assuming this is a mineral and not a rock fragment.
