mn90403
Lu is gone for a few weeks so I got out for some travel, hunting and prospecting over the last few days.It all started on Groundhog Day with a 5 hour drive from Santa Monica to Yuma (left at 4 AM). This was my first trip there and it was cold. I actually went on the California side in Winterhaven but my plan for sleeping in the car was dashed ... it was in the 30s and below in some places. Nothing the first day so on to the Motel 6.The next day was better. I found lots of trash and eventually got a nugget out of it. It's not solid and made the water cloudy a couple of times before it cleaned up. I found it with the 7000 at about 3 inches down. Later I was told this was one of the larger nuggets taken from this claim. Most other color is dry washed.Wednesday night was in Tucson and Thursday at the Gem and Mineral Show. Saw the meteorite people and went hunting for black rocks near Safford on Friday. Saturday was spent detecting Greaterville and Sunday was a sightseeing trip to Bisbee, Douglas, AZ before making it to Willcox.I listened to the Super Bowl driving from Willcox to Yuma. I got gas at the Pilot station for $1.31!Monday I detected the Yuma side (no Arizona gold for this trip) and back to Winterhaven and back to Santa Monica. It was time for a beach day when I got 7 rings, (1 gold and 2 silver) and some other stuff. The next day was a bust at the beach.Thursday was out digging in Barstow area and got two little nuggets that total .3g ... lots of diggingToday I'm tired and sick ...Mitchel

mn90403
BD,Yes, good to start out the trip with color.I was thinking of you and Adam as I was digging those holes. We don't have flakes in that stuff so you have to dig and dig and detect.GB works there too. One of the nuggets was with the 2300.Mitchel

Old Tom
Well this is one trip that you didn't have to worry about Lu showing you up. Glad you had a good time and got some color. I've never tried the beach, what detector do you use there in the sand? Do you risk your 7000 near the surf and salt water? Old Tom

TomH
Kool! Nice finds, gold, rings, Cool looking sunglasses I thought dad and I were the only ones that had a folding aluminum chair like that! You definitely did some traveling.Tom H
mn90403
Toms,Yes, Lu might have showed me up this trip if she were with me!I use the 3030 on the beach with the big coil (17") and the standard one (11"). I want to get one of the 6" coils for really trashy places but it won't help much at the beach. I've used the 7000 at the beach when I first got it but not since. I think it could be good but my holes would be deeper and more of them because there is no discrimination.I don't know where I got that chair! On the mileage it was many hundreds of miles. To be specific I got my oil changed on January 23 and I have been 3500 miles since then! I'm glad gas is cheap in Arizona. I get about 20 on the interstates.Mitchel
Swampstomper Al
D'oh..! It just dawned on me why Ash & Miller Canyon GPAA claims probably made no sense.. When you weretalking Greaterville I was reading Nicksville.. We did try making it to Greaterville last time out.. Started coming in from the turnoff near the 'agriculturalcheckpoint' on 83.. Got as far as the restrooms and deceided to call it quits.. Van was about to discombobulate..The road from Congress to Stanton is freshly paved compared to that ride.. Nice n wide n all that, just gradedby a torture test track designer specialist is all.. Did meet up with two guys in Humvees from MI who were havinga blast tho.. Second day into a planned drive of the entire interlink back through there they said.. Swamp
Micro Nugget
You had a nice trip Mitchel. Thanks for sharing. Last November that Barstow area gave me a clue as to where the gold was hidden so I took a photo. Since then the nuggets just keep on coming! The six little guys are about a pennyweight. Got 'em last week with the 7000.
mn90403
Thanks Martin,You really know how to find your gold. Between the rainbow and your wife's dousing you have more gold from that PCSC claim than anyone.Mitchel
Old Tom
Mitchel, I think that I recognize one of my purple and yellow aluminum chairs that vanished one outing. I don't think that anyone but me would redo an ancient sit down in colors like that. Got the webbing for nothing. A good rester after a hard hunt. mn90403
Old Tom,That chair still has one of the old 'moving' stickers on it that they used many years ago. I don't know where it came from but you can have a look at it the next outing.Mitchel
Old Tom
Worth a laugh Bro. I still have a couple more and you can use it if you can stand the colors. Old Tom
