Steel Pan
Just what the heck do ya do when ya ain't got any water? Ya walk the streambed with your detector! I started out using my 3", had to change to my 2", and now I'm lucky to getenough water to take a drink. But never say die, I'm gonna grab my detectorand start walking the "DRY" streambed. Y'all have a great holiday weekend. May the Gold gods smile on ya.

Heat stroke out detecting in this ungodly heat-John 117? No thanks! I do still have a few little puddles that I can sit down in to cool down. Temps up to 92 at the claim last few days. I'm goin' back up on Fri for weekend. It should be in the mid to high 80's.
El Dorado
Went up to my old stomping ground, Nelson Creek. Was wondering if it had any water at all, so we could teach the grandkids how to pan. The creek did not let us down and it was a grand time. Still enough to water to run a 4"........

Swampstomper Al
That's interesting, thanks Fred -- didn't know that area had diamond instances.. Here's a link to a copy of CA State Mining Bureau's Bulletin 67 from 1914 titled "Minerals of California": http://undergroundexplorers.com/documents/Minerals_of_California_March_1914.pdf The known diamond discovery locations up to that time are listed near the front.. fredmason
Thanks, El D.There is a small book that details the various reports of diamonds in California...Cherokee was probaly the most well known area for placer diamonds. There was also a diamond mine.No one will ever know how many diamonds were lost by the popular but wrong test of a diamond... Hitting it with a hammer, the myth was that a diamond is hard and therefore could not be broken...fred
Swampstomper Al
To get to Bulletin 67:Click on the above link, which will return a 404 error..Go to address line at top of that page & type: http:// in front..Hit: Enter.. Steel Pan
I too have heard of diamonds in the Sierra Range. The diversity of mineralization in the Sierra Nevada range is quite broad.
