Old Tom
Hey Digger, I feel your pain. Sometimes we don't have a choice in the chain of events but we have to roll with the punches as best we can. I had my companion put down last year after a bout with cancer. Took me almost a year to grieve it out. I finally got a pound pup and am starting over again and feel great about it. Give it time and start over it's worth it. Old Tom
mn90403
Rick,As Old Tom said, don't be too short trying to forget a tragedy (big or not so big) as that can make it worse. Tell your neighbors, tell your friends and tell us again. It helps in the long run.Mitchel Edited May 2, 2015 by mn90403
Au Seeker
Rick, I grieve with you, I have had to put down 2 of my long time beloved friends within a year, one at the first of the year due to cancer and the other last summer due to immobility/unable to walk from old age, both were right at 13 years old, had them since they were tiny puppies, it was very hard, and I know it's even harder when you lose them like you did from an unexpected sudden horrific tragedy. This poem has always helped me cope to some degree with such a loss of a beloved pet...The Rainbow Bridge"There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent; her eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated." Uncle Ron
darn, Rick ... That's hard! Your friends and forum family are here for you praying for support and healing ... Many of us have gone through those kinds of loss and we can relate, and offer support that says, "Grieve, it's hard, but it's a measure of living love for those gone from our world but not from our spirit and their spirit." I'm so sorry for your losses! ... Ron
Sonoran Dave
Dang, losing a dog is a wound that takes a while to heal. Like most here I have lost a few. It does get better and when it does, get another pup...you won't regret it.
