Au Seeker
That report/article seems to be about 4 years old, here's the latest I could find on this Emerald story/battle for ownership. This article was from the first of the year. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/man-loses-fight-840-pound-emerald-worth-372-million-article-1.1596514This article is from the latter part of October.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/11172845/Bahia-Emerald-survived-panther-attack-Hurricane-Katrina-Bernie-Madoff-and-drug-gang-but-who-owns-it.html I can sorta understand Brazil making a claim for the emerald, but how can the Smithsonian and the Getty museums think they have a claim to the emerald!!! Maybe a bunch of us from Nugget Shooter should make a claim to the emerald!!!
mn90403
Here is something more recent and the reason I put it up was because I heard a story on the radio news that the judge was hearing the case now.http://www.criminalelement.com/blogs/2014/10/bahia-emerald-840-pounds-400-million-dollars-court-crime-hq
Hoser John
I've been following this story religiously as come hell or high water I just want to see that gift from Mother nature up close and personal like. I'll gladly pay for a few minutes time as there will never be another to match such mindboggling righteousness....John
Goldfinger
Here is something more recent and the reason I put it up was because I heard a story on the radio news that the judge was hearing the case now.http://www.criminalelement.com/blogs/2014/10/bahia-emerald-840-pounds-400-million-dollars-court-crime-hqI was in contact with Ron Ringsrud asking him about this case. They are lowly but surely knocking claimants off one by one. Maybe in couple years this will be resolved. By the way, the appraisal of $400,000,000 is ridiculous. No is going to pay anything close that that figure if it were ever to be sold, unless it's 200 years from now and inflation is 20%.

Hoser John
Price is set on market value-willing seller and a willing buyer and them Arab sheiks and SA druglords pay more for much less.John
Morlock
Here's an update on this case. The Bahia emerald is still in the Los Angeles Sheriffs vault. Almost all of the claimants have been eliminated. The government of Brazil has stepped in claiming it was illegally exported... which it was. So unless something extraordinary comes up, it looks as though it will be going back to Brazil sometime in the future. Â
