KennA
Took a drive up in the Black Canyon area to check out the water levels and ran across one of these rare Monsters.I have lived here in AZ since 1977 and have never seen one in the wild.It was my big nugget for the day; I took a photo and let it mousy on down the hill.Really cool to actually see one. azblackbird
Somehow I think gila monsters are pretty much territorial. I saw my first one about 15 years ago while out dirt biking east of Bartlett Lake. No more than a year later, I saw one in the Garfias Wash area just a little south of Castle Hot Springs Rd. Since then, over the years of riding in those areas I've either seen the same ones, or quite possibly their offspring. I don't think they move very far from a food or water source. Seems like every time I see one, they're pretty much in the same exact spots I saw them in the prior years.
KennA
Ahorton10,There is still water up in the areas, but little to no flow.I was hoping that last rain would give us a little push of water.
Ahorton10
Thanks ken, I was hoping for that as well. Maybe the moisture will continue through winter and get some extra snow in the high country
