Desertsunburn
Meteorite falls, also called observed falls, are meteorites collected after their fall from space was observed by people or automated devices.Jim
saginaw72
I think meteorites will be found in time.
Mikestang
It's just a meteor until someone finds something.
Regmaglitch
Murmansk is a a port on the northern coast near the border with Norway. I think it's still winter in that part of Russia, and any meteorites will be hidden by snow, unless it fell near the city, which is quite large. The books say more than300,000 people. Any fall north of the Arctic Circle is iffy. Ben
saginaw72
Hope someone finds something soon.
Regmaglitch
Hi Sag, I agree. It would be awesome if there was another recovered Russian fall on the heels of the Chelyabinsk incident. My fingers are crossed! Ben
saginaw72
Hi Ben.Those Russian meteorite hunters are quick to move. Honestly, I'm surprised nothing has turned up yet. You must be right about it still being winter there.
Regmaglitch
You are right about how fast those Russian meteorite hunters are. I'm sure they are searching hard, and a find could turn up any day. Thespring thaw is a long time off. I worked the GPAA Gold Trip near Nome in 1985, and I remember that the ice did not go out until aboutJuly 4th. So, until the big thaw, we need someone to call in, with a hole in their roof, or something like that. Ben
