El Dorado 964
A few Welo Opals (Ethiopian) I have recently set into jewelry. I sure do wish I could really capture the beauty of these on camera..... The last one is a true crystal opal, as you can see it is easy to read right through the stone.

Au Seeker 3,174
That's one awesome log!!!Has a fire of it's own, no need to introduce a flame!!!It's owned by Julie wilson, it was found by Julie and her fatherHere's couple of more one of a kind pieces from the Royal Peacock mine, the first one is called the "Northern Lights Delight" also known as "The Shoe", the second one is called "Ginkgo Log" it's among the largest opals ever found in the world, weighting in at 130 lbs., it's about 30% opalized it was found by a customer in the public digging area, they close the public diggings area to the public in 2004, but this year they have re-opened it to the public.Link to the public digging pagehttp://royalpeacock.com/fee-digging
El Dorado 964
On one of my visits to the mine, I got to hold and fondle the "Ginko" log. They even let me take it out in the sun for an extraordinary blast of the color.......it has to be the finest piece of Opal anywhere. The unique pattern is because the tree had a disease that hollowed out individual cells.

middleforkminer2 316
Bill, Opal is one of the gems I have always wanted to dig. Never had the chance though. Maybe a week trip to Virgin Valley some day....some daySame here...I'm facinated with the thought of scratching around looking for opals. Virgin Vally & the surrounding area is on my short list on places to visit & dig. There are some really good videos on youtube showing guys looking for & finding it.
