Mysterious fireball streaks through sky...

Recommended Posts

Saw this on CNN. The fellow filmed it for 2 and a half minutes, so clearly not a meteor.

I haven't got a clue what it was. Anyone want to take a shot at it?

The Iranian ships are in route to the US Coast. We did a THAAD Test last week . Emmmm wonder why. Launch from White sands. Don't know where the Target messily was launched from. Look Up THAAD! https://www.google.com/search?q=thaad&hl=en&qscrl=1&rlz=1T4GGNI_enUS573US573&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=z0H9Ur3KEI_pqAH-noHoBg&sqi=2&ved=0CDAQsAQ&biw=1607&bih=754

I think what he shows is the 'trail' that is lit up by the sun. You can see parts of it that are in the shadows. To me it looks like 'normal' water vapor contrails except for the abrupt ending. In my times in the desert I have seen everything in that video except for that end. If not made from water vapors from combustion then I would agree it could be space junk or something else and when it cooled or broke up it ended the trail.

Here is the Russian meteor. http://video.kylekeeton.com/2013/02/russian-video-from-russia-meteorite-fall-on-russia-february-15th-2013.html

Who knows how long the trail lasted after entry? It ends also abruptly when I suppose the object was low enough in the atmosphere to not hold the particles in a plume based upon temperature changes.

Great suggestions Mitch and Homey. These sound like good possible answers.

This was filmed in Maine and with the frigid weather there right now there may be all sorts of odd atmospheric tricks of light going on with missile and aircraft trails.
