Use Google Chrome. You can keep your Explorer too to use on your other sites and your history if you like. I started with Chrome that way and I haven't opened Explorer in over a year.

I uploaded Chrome a week ago to try and get better results as XP dies like April 18 and Messenger gone haywire too since December changes. Time for a windows 7 try as 8 & 8.1 gettn' replaced also as a dud like 2000,Vista and Millenium. Thanks much for trying as Microsoft messes up the whole thang. John

XP is fine if you are just doing email and web. Vista and Windows 8 suck royal hiney. Internet Exploder gets less usable with each version.

Turn off your updates and stop downloading "free" antivirus programs or surfing for "free" porn and your XP will serve you for as long as your computer stays alive. It's still the best and most stable system Windows has ever made.

Thanks Clay.

I will be putting my 'puter in the shop for a memory upgrade though.

Seems the RAM is insufficient, so I've been told, upgrade will bring the speed back.

Right?

Spent the cash and went to a MacBook Pro. Love it!! Fast, no viruses, NO PROBLEMS!!!! I am not computer savvy so to me it is worth the money for way less frustration. No more windows for me.

Just bought a second for my son.

For Windows computers I'd strongly suggest some regular disk maintenance if you want to keep them "fast" Steel Pan. They slow down over time because of the way they write information onto the hard drive willy nilly.

You can do a lot to prevent that and have them run smoother and faster by regular defragmentation. It's easy and it's free. You can read my tutorial about the easy effective way to get this done HERE. You might not need any memory upgrades at all if you try this first.

I agree with spa in nv about the Mac option. We have five Macs ourselves ranging from an old laptop to the latest and greatest super computer. I highly recommend them. Better quality construction and much easier on the nerves. If you are in love with Windows or Linux you can buy a Mac and run all three systems side by side. Try that with your Windows box!

With the constant failure of Microsoft to come up with a useable operating system, browser or non bloated program it's becoming obvious that we all need to consider another system eventually. The various flavors of Linux are an option but you will still be limited on future operating system choices. If you are looking for a new computer consider putting up the extra cash for one of the Apple "pro" models. My 1999 Apple laptop is still going strong and can do anything your Windows box can even after 15 years of hard use.

I defragment regularly but was told that current web operations require a lot more RAM.

I'll try your tutorial and see if it helps.

Thanks
