Tucson Gem & Mineral Show - 2014

Recommended Posts

Hello!!!

I hope everyone is having an AWESOME day!!! Was wondering if anyone here will be attending the Tucson Gem & Mineral show here in a few short weeks?

Would love to know who will be there and when so Johnno & I can try to meet up and say .... HI ... Well, I'll say hi and he will say G'Day ... :shake2:

We will be arriving on Wednesday, the 5th and leaving on Sunday. Roaming around for a few days, walking everywhere.

It's going to be a great time. Hope to see you there!

Hi Kat,

I live in Tucson and of course will be anxious to see anyone and everyone. My cell is 520-780-0530 and can usually meet somewhere to chat. I hope you and Johnno will be at the auction, I have lots of Gold Basin pieces and NWA 869s this year in the two cakes for folks to find, the night of the 8th.

is the website to see vendors, hotels and guest information for the meteorite folks. And, here is the auction website for those interested:

I was wondering... perhaps someone here can answer my question...

Do you think it possible to sell this azurite-malachite gemstone at the show? if so, what type of price range would you think fair to ask for it... the barometer testing price grade being Bisbee, AZ @ $45.00/ gram?

I'll post both finished Bisbee products next to the partially worked/ raw material in question for comparison. Thanks...

Is this for cut stones or rough?

Excellent question, Definately rough material. I don't have the time, skill, nor equipment to produce finished grade gems, plus, I'm sure buyers who buy in bulk do so with the intentions to craft their own creations...

If my math is correct $45per gram is over $20K per pound…I would wager that you will never get that price for rough. Even $5 a gram or less on finished Bisbee azurite/malachite cabs is pretty common. Bisbee also commands higher prices because of the provenance. I have over 20 pound of Bluebird mine rough that is every bit if not better than Bisbee stuff and it will only sell at $1/gram maximum but realistically a lot less. Your stuff looks great but you are probably in the $20-30/lb range. To get people interested in the material you may have to start even lower until the material has proved worthy of a higher price. I am not trying to be negative and am only stating my opinion since I buy and sell a lot of rocks.

Johnno & Kat.... Dee and I will be at the show this year too. However, later than the two of you, I think we will be showing up on the 12 or 13th and hang out for 3-5 days

X2 While they are nice finds, it's nothing special.... no offense intended.

thanks for the input... I figured similar results I just thought I'd get info direct from folk like yourselves who are in the know...

One idea I had was to fashion these specimens into a tabletop mosaic. another was to make a chess set out of them... heh, I'm thinking if I create a new trend with them they'll fetch a better price. Time and creativity will tell.

HI Steve,

Well that's a great big ol' bummer that we will just miss each other by that short a time. We would love to be able to stay longer but work won't allow either of us to.

I hope you guys have such a great time!!

Hi Mitchel

Wow you're fast!! That's awesome. We just got back to our hotel after tonight's event.

Yes, he's blown away by the award. But he's more impressed with Jim & Wendy Wooddell receiving their Harvey award. We both congratulate them. We had fun talking with them both on the lawn at the Inn Suites today. I don't know what it was but their dog really liked Johnno

... more to follow ...
