mn90403
It has been pretty slow for the last week but I did find one gold ring (14k/4.5g), a class ring without the stone and a strange 'tin' something or other with a Brazil impression on it. Do we know anyone in Brazil who could tell me what this is?
garimpo
Does the Brazil coin have any writing or numbers on it? It's been a few years now but now and then the Gov. here makes new coins and the old ones are no longer any good. They give you a period of time to turn in the old ones for the new ones. At times I have found old coins while beeping for gold but the coins are no good. Without seeing both sides clearly it's hard to tell what it is. mn90403
Garimpo,I have been told this is a tin (SN) material and I think someone took a Brazil coin and made an impression (partial) and I can't read the year. I just don't have any idea why it would be done or if you or anyone else has seen something like this before.MitchelAlso ... I am uploading a full sized picture but it only posts a thumbnail. Where is the picture itself?

Where is the picture itself?Mitchel, The forum is setup to downsize images to save on bandwidth, images use a lot more of the forum's bandwidth compared to just text, also another reason for the downsizing was a lot of images were being uploaded that were so big you had to scroll down and from side to side to view the images, if you click on the thumbnail image it will enlarge, but not as large as the image was when you uploaded it. It does look like it's a impression of a coin since the lettering is reversed on the tin.
mn90403
I know the reason for the smaller size but some of the pictures I click on blow up much bigger. Where have these photos been hosted so that they are big on the forum rather than a thumbnail detail?Mitchel
Au Seeker
Most likely a photo hosting site such as Photobucket, almost all pictures I post here are hosted on Photobucket.

garimpo
MN the face on the impression is the same on the Brazil 10 Centavo coin....I have two in my coin bucket and I don't know what the metal is but it goes right to a magnet....the two I have are 1994-95 and they look like tin but their a little heavier than tin. My thinking is someone was trying to make counterfeit coins.
Patrick in Havasu
Hmmmm. That face on the coin looks suspiciously like Garimpo. Are you sure there isn't some indication of a pink thong on the other side to seal the deal?....... Patrick ..... mn90403
Patrick,I see the resemblance but you would know more about the thong than I would ... oh that was a different thread for those who did not read it.Mitchel
garimpo
Mitchel your "fake" almost coin was made in the 90's, then they changed to the current ones, the old ones are still good to spend and the new ones are also another metal.... this is a 2012 mint. The pic is of Jesus and no thongs on the new ones either. The word tiradentes means "calm" in English.
mn90403
Ok, thanks. Question answered.Mitchel
fredmason
btw; several countries are minting coins made with some iron composition...they stick to a magnet and that really messes with the coin id ...fred
broken arrow
Mitchel, Good finds Mitchel. I also found one of those silver looking Brazil coins at S.M a few weeks back. I heard they had Glow festival that lasted until 3am one Sat night (don't ask me what the glow was all about i don't know) My Gbpro #'s are 85-89 but the ferous bars are 4-5 and it's Not Magnetic. Does any one know the GBpro #'s ? I know Silver is 89 but the ferous bars at 4-5 bars tells me it's high in ferous.Jonwspa
mn90403
Jon,That makes sense! The Glow Festival was just 'art on the beach' and I walked it so that odd impression of a coin in that tin was a hand out of sorts. I say tin because I went to a coin dealer and they shot it with their spectrograph and it came back as tin (Sn).Thanks for the ID.Mitchel
