SLNugget
I am making a trip to Washington state next week going through NV. Does anyone have any information about Elko county prospecting? Public or open areas. club claims, or know of someone with a placer claim up that way. Jarbridge, Tuscarora, Mountain City? I would like to stick my sluice in a creek for a while if I can find a place. Thanks for any help.
Morlock
I spent some time up there trying to find a place to go. All the gold areas are either claimed up, patented or on private ranches. Not aware of any club claims but I'm sure there's some out there someplace. My suggestion is do some research on a particular area. Then when you get there, visit the ranches and ask for permission to prospect.
SLNugget
Thanks, I've about decided to give it a pass and wait until I get to WA to get the sluice wet.
Gilaoro
Stan, The WSPA had some NV claims when I belonged, don't know if they still do. LostDutchman has a lot of experience around Tuscarora, how about it Steve? I have never had a problem finding a place but it takes time to make friends in the areas you would want to prospect, I just don't know any place you could just go directly too. My last trip through NV I spent a month in Dyer, NV , mainly so I could go dig quartz crystals at Deep creek, CA. And check a WSPA claim south of Dyer a few miles. The little R/V park there is a very friendly place and if you hang out in the only bar in town you will soon meet the local miners and a beer or two will get you some local info if not a place to dig, I met a local who had some claims way up in the MTS and he gave me Carte Blanche to dig there using my drywasher. Its high country but beautiful and has gold in every direction along with other minerals. You should consider the WSPA , they have some new N California claims that's supposed to be super, but its getting a little late in the year for the high country , I can't take it over 7,000 feet for long so I dropped out of the WSPA. SLNugget
Thanks Max. I am probably going thru Jackpot. Seems to be the shortest route to Duvall. Sorry I have not made it by your place. The alternator on my truck died and I just got the new one today and installed it. Cheap knockoff from China but seems to work so far. This trip sort of developed at the last minute and i have been busy getting organized to go. Gonna try to get out to the claim in the morning and find the mother lode before I leave . Gilaoro
Park at Cactus Pete's RV park, the laundry usually has notices about rock hounding sites, check with the office about the dealers who rock hound, the R/V park is sometimes full of rock hounds/casino rats. It may be a little early in the year and still hot. If you are a player they will comp you in the R/V park, I am still ahead. Max

The Found Dutchman
Stan,If you want to go to Tuscarora, your best bet is to join this club.http://ugpc.org/outings.htm There's a claim called Carrot Top which is just southwest of Tuscarora. It's not a club claim. It's owned by one of the members and he charges $5.00 a day. Andy is his name I believe. The gold is in the banks and it's all fine stuff on a shallow, decomposed schisty bedrock. Easy digging.I think there's a mine fed trickle of water you can dam up to create a pond for recirculation. May take some time to fill up though. Or you can get your own water. Another option is to take buckets of screened paydirt to the "river" a few miles away for processing. The "river" is only about 2 feet wide but you'll have plenty of room to work. The world famous Taylor Canyon Resort is only 6-7 miles from Tuscarora. They have just about everything you need including very, very expensive gas. Tom and Milt will make your stay an enjoyable one.http://www.nevadadventures.com/client/taylorcanyonresort/taylorcanyonresort1.html
