Cakewalk
As a rock hound, I understand that we sometimes like to keep locations a secret, but is anyone willing to tell me where and / or how to get to the area near lake pleasant ( arizona ) where the little geodes live? I can find lots of references, but nobody is giving the locations. I've never been able to figure it out...thanks in advance!! adam
I remember having a publication on a thunder egg location that I seem to recall was near lake pleasant. Sorry, I no longer have it, and just cant remember where it was.
frank c
Scan thru the indexes on the rocking Arizona books and see if you can gain explicit directions to this place. One of the many publications on the subject should have it referenced. Nugget Shooter
There are Opal and Chalcedony geodes west of lake pleasant. Minerals of Arizona, by Neil R. Bearce. I picked it up at wide world of maps. Several sites are listed. There are thousand's of broken geodes, on the ground, at the pleasant siteThis is the best I could find... Haderly
I’ve been to that spot many years ago. The geodes were plentiful but not very good in quality. I tried to get back there a few years ago but the road had washed out and I did not feel like walking.
TomH
I dont know if this this is exactly what your looking for or not... I think its chalcedony.... I found this one up by lake pleasant....off to the west. You can get to it off of Castle hot springs road that leads into lake pleasant. Going to need a 4 wheel drive though. The Found Dutchman
I wonder what someone would find using a black light in that area. There is a small market for fluorescent specimens and if you find some with two or three colors, they could be worth some $$$$$This guy is located in Phoenix. I would love to see his collection.http://polmanminerals.com/html/premium_specimens.html Edited August 10, 2013 by The Found Dutchman

Are they fossils of some type? Just kidding.. I know scorpions are flourescent but you'd think there's some rock specimens that are too. Have seen some nice ones from Arizona. Nugget Shooter
There indeed would be and best to get a black light with both long and short wave light. It is amazing the colors on some specimens under black light and mine dumps are especially cool to look for specimens with a black light in here in AZ. adam
I think that is the site where concretions are found, and some of the crystal filled cavities are amethystine in color. Also reverse scepters if I recall.....

I did not find them where the pins were, but I did find them on the other side of the wash, to the west a 100 to 200 yards of the pins. This is what it looks like laying on the ground, And this is what it can look like when flipped over I did not drive there on the trail, but parked on the hardball road and it was a 30 minute walk. Would have been five minute walk from the trail. Edited April 1 by chrisski
Gilaoro2
Good job Chriski. More post like this needed! We are at Romero Creek NM/AZ line and digging geodes and Amesth quartz crystals. Some petrified wood too. Little cold snow is almost all gone at 7000 feet were we are are. Ill try to send some pics tomorrow. All by ourself just herds of elk and trukeys walk through camp every am. About two cars pass a day. 10 miles to town and PO 72 miles to Safeway and diesel. Nites frezzing days 60s. It dont get any better some of yoy RHs and gold propspectors were closer. GPAA has a White mt chapter. At onetime I had a 40 acre claim here but is was a little far from yuma. After Polly got sick we dropped it. l see no signs of stakes now. Every geode I found was in a concretion and very hard to get out. I did not see amethystine or reverse scepters. One photo shows the geode lodged in the host concretion, and the next when split. A lot of work to get these out. This color concrete was not as difficult as the greyer color. There was a dark colored lava dike on the hill and the geodes were found just outside that in a concretion. If anyone goes there, do the obvious thing and follow the trail to the top of the hill, which ends at an old working.
chrisski
I found both the Wickenburg Geodes and the chalcedony specimens were fluorescent under Short Wave Light.
