A new old find

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I found this stone years ago in Oman on my first trip there. My second trip to Oman ended very badly with a short prison visit , 6 weeks of hotel bills, feeding 7 Russians and one German food and vodka and then being deported. ASU still has another achondrite that the prior dept administrator wanted to classify. Well working at the speed of light 8 years later I finally got this one classified. I burnt up 2, 10 inch diamond saw blades just to cut this chicken egg sized stone in 1/2 and a couple 6 inch diamond blades to cut one 1/2 in 1/2. It sounds like the pros used up 7 more blades to thin section it. Ureilites are not a very well understood meteorite and contain primitive diamonds.
