boulder dash
Was doing some drywashing a few days ago and low and behold a vain cutting across the wash. At first I thought it was amethyst but now I think it's florite. It is a crazy dark purple quarts and the photo does not do justice. What do you guys think. Hoser John
Doesn't look right,I'd go for florite as definately no amethyst either? Fracture test/hardness will tell all, kinda purty, not a good pic but.....John
Goldfinger
I would say it's amethyst. Florite is rather soft and a steel knife can scratch it. Amethyst can scratch a steel knife.Steve
boulder dash
It seems to have quite a few fractures.
Haderly
I second florite. Check the hardness and you will be able to rule one or the other out.
JohnH
If it was fluorite I would expect to see some cleavage planes on it. Check for hardness. If a knife won't scratch it than not fluorite.

homefire
As it obviously part of the quartz structure, I'm going with Crummy amethyst!
