Helicopter Pilot Retrieves Kid's Plane from Tree

This is so neat. I know you will enjoy it - what a pilot

- not only observant but such a caring gentleman to do

this for a total stranger - WOW!!!!!!!

This made a kid's day. Chopper pilots see a P-51 model

airplane in a tree and retrieves it.

Some nifty flying by the pilot and classic aviation footage.

It looked like a pretty nice day to be flying, too.

Well I been flying, found out that the dry lake bed by Kingman is a great place to fly , lots of room as my planes have gotten bigger.

I have 2 powered gliders, a minimoa with 73 inch wing and a Roc Hobbies V-Tail that has an 86inch wing.

plus my smaller planes.....lots of room and quiet in the early mornings.

I picked one of these up to check roof tops and rain gutters when we had the Sutter's Mill Meteorite come down.

Fly it with your smart phone and record video. Two cameras.

Back in the 70's we lived in a Duplex house. The Naybor was Chines. Worked for the U or A as a Bioligy teacher. He tought me more then I was learning in school. He was into fish, Reptiles and Birds. Took me out to Band Birds a few times with Mist Nets. We would drive the Roads at night to find what snakes we could.

He gave me a Old Bi Plane to learn with. All but worn out .049 engine. It was so Fuel Soaked it was hard to repair . Glue would not stick any more but we always found ways. Tooth Picks, Hot Glue or rubber bands. I learned to fly it. Like him I ended up with a Voodoo Combat Plane. Flying Combat you have two people flying together. 8ft ribbon of papper tied to the tail and object is to cutt off as much tail as you can. Bad things happen when you do a Wing Over and Come down on a plane. Lucky if your engine still was in working order.

The Voodoo is nothing but a Flying Wing.

Running 75Ft lines you can clock them at 90MPH or more.

With a McCoy 35 I was doing about 100MPH.

Did You Know if you take a Baby Pasifier Clamp a fuel line to it and Inject Fuel with a Horse syrenge Use it as your fuel tank you can fly upside down? Get a about 30% more power? Like poor mans fuel Injection. 40lb Presure.

Life was good back then.

Johnno,

I had a P-51 Mustang with a gas engine on a tether, and yes you would get dizzy going round and round!!! :th_panic::vomit-smiley-011[1]::th:

lol I had one of those too. Crashed it into the back of a garbage truck one day and totaled it out. The garbage men got a good laugh..I think that was my last plane. sniff

But the ones that were rubber band together, to me, were the funnest. You could crash em many times. As long as it didn't damage the motor you were good to go. Sure liked those little 218-B's.

I had the U-Control planes too and defiantly got into the combat flying with them. I had one tank of a flying wing with an .060 motor. It would pull so hard I had to keep leaning way back just to counter the g-force. Had a few smaller ones too that we would use an old refer box as an aircraft carrier for landing and take off... really broke a bunch of props doing that...

I've run .o49, o51 rebuilds , .o30 , , . 05 and 1hp weed eater engines on planes., All thanks to a Chines neighbor I had. He gave me this old Bi Plane wood so soaked in fuel the glue wouldn't stick. Had to keep it flying with tooth picks and rubber bands. I learned to fly with it. The .o49 he gave me was all but history worn out but it ran. He did give me a Rebuild kit to make it a .o51. That Hummed.

I knew a control line flyer he let me fly his fun stuff even not souped up.

One time he said you know that o.49 Cox engine don't need that plan to fly it only needs a rag. I said no way! He pulled that motor off pull out a small shop rag took the prop off and put that rag on a bit off gas started it up with the rag held it up let go and away it went never found it gone for ever

If you guys ever get the chance, one of the coolest events I've ever witnessed is the Big Sandy Shoot just a little ways out of Wickiup off hwy. 93. One of my most favorite parts of the event (besides the night shooting and explosions) is when they shoot at all the RC airplanes people bring to use and fly as targets. Some of the guys with "big pockets" will take their Ma Dueces and will literally waste an easy 2000 rounds or more in just a few minutes time trying to hit an airplane. They're not as easy to hit as most people would think. Some planes get hit and still keep on flying. The guy flying the plane will bring it back in and it's full of holes, but yet still flyable… unbelievable! :arrowheadsmiley:

Flight time depends on th plane and throttle control, Some of my powered gliders can stay up for 30 min or more.

I just got a Tiger moth bi-plane and have not flown it yet.

I was at Bennett field (silver bowl) in Vegas today. I flew a low wing trainer looks like a Cherokee and a piper cub looking high wing trainer then I flew my DC3 , that was fun plus I flew a small (36inch) version tiger moth bi-plane....ran out of room in the truck or I would have brought more planes to fly

Alright, you guys with all this cools RC flying have got my interest spiked. I want to get a low cost trainer to start, and eventually want to fly RC sailplanes. I looked around on EBay and came up with something like this. http://www.ebay.com/itm/251542788715

Any suggestions would be nice. My nearest local Town, does not have a hobby shop........

Looks like a Good Starter to me. You Realize after your first few flights, your going to be looking for a better motor to get you up faster right?
