People may want to stock up on those hand warmers. It looks like it's going to be a cold winter and it is starting early. Here's the latest severe weather map. Just click on the colored areas to see the warning. Be careful out there!

Got to work this morning and those winds toppled a 45 foot dead pine tree at one of our post offices. Fell into the driveway so no customers could get in. We do everything we can not to contract out our jobs so 7 of us and the stake-bed showed up cut it up and hauled it away. Love being a maintenance guy, you never know what your day is going to be like.

Typical govt job one guy working the others watching and yea I'm one of the watchers.

Aloha guys,

Oh yeah, freeze warnings for Las Vegas Valley in general. Got to wonder how many fires are goin to errupt in some fireplaces this week.

Bad news for people who really arnt prepared and dont know how to build a proper fire in an old wood burning fireplace.

Good luck everyone and definitely stay warm and safe!

Aloha,

Stan aka Kaimi

Bucket

I live near Bryce Canyon Utah. It got down to 19 below at the park, head quarters.

It is 15 above here where I live now,but it doesn't feel too cold. I have camped and worked

in 30 to 60 below weather all my life ,and you get sorta used to it.

I have spent lots of winters logging at 10 to 11 thousand feet elevation in the spruce.

Homefire it could be worse, you could live at Chama ,talk about stiff water!

Cold and windy here too, but a nice hot oak fire in the woodstove and Mrs El Dorado's warm personality is all I need to be nice and comphy! Been there and done that with the 50 below stuff (N. Minnesota for 2 years) and I do not want to have to do it again...EVER

  • 2 weeks later...

Here we go again....

Statement as of 4:00 AM MST on December 31, 2012

... Freeze warning in effect from midnight tonight to 8 am MST

Tuesday...

The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a freeze

warning... which is in effect from midnight tonight to 8 am MST

Tuesday. The freeze watch is no longer in effect.

* Affected area... southwest and south central Arizona deserts

generally east of the Colorado River to Phoenix... Casa

Grande... and Gila Bend.

* Temperatures... widespread freezing temperatures from the upper 20s

to middle 30s for early Tuesday morning.

* Impacts... frost sensitive plants are vulnerable to damage.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or

highly likely. These conditions will destroy or damage crops and

other sensitive vegetation. Bring sensitive plants inside or under

covered patios if possible. Covering sensitive plants or running the

irrigation/drip systems may also serve as preventative measures

against freezing temperatures.
