Gaius
The following info about back-up lights going out applies to the owners of 2000 4X4 Tacoma’s. My truck's back-up lights stop working and it was not the fuses, plugs or the wiring that left the back-up switch. On my 2000 Taco this switch was located on the transmission, right side of the truck. To verify the switch is the troublesome part I pulled the plug (my was blue), insert a wire connecting the plugs two female connectors, and turn on the truck without actually starting the engine. The lights come on confirming a bad transmission back-up light switch, the replacement part at pep-boys was about $20.00 and takes a 27mm socket or other to remove. Took me a good 5 minutes to remove and replace.
