Substantial fee increases proposed for Imperial

Written by editor@ingear4x4.com (John Stewart) on Oct 21, 2012 01:03 am

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has released a draft Business Plan for the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area (ISDRA). The Business Plan calls for an increase in the weekly permit fee from $25 to $40 when purchased off-site. On-site weekly permits are proposed to be $70. The annual permit fee is proposed at $180. BLM intends to implement the fee increase on September 1, 2013.

The proposed public review and comment period has been limited to less than 3 weeks ending at 8:00 a.m. on November 5th.

The complete Business Plan is available at:

Please go to the Action Center for more information about how to participate in the public comment process. At a minimum we urge you to use the alert system to send an email to the BLM asking for an extension on the comment period.

Man oh man. I can understand that the country is bankrupt, but they have many other ways to cut fat and retain income. But that would mean they have to take back some of the subsidies and legal fee reimbursements given to the 'environmentalist' organizations.

and less than three weeks for comment?!?

Haven't been there in many years but a law was further codified in Appeals Court that restricts FS/BLM from charging fees unless specific improvements are made in direct correlation to areas soooooooo????????? John
