jim straight 187
Bill...This is a great complement; coming from you it really is heartfelt. You do so much to help others such as pinning this sub-forum we arenow communicating on. You are especially noted for your unique ability to be understanding and friendly over the many past years in dealing with negativeposters back when it was somewhat common for some posters to "vent" forvarious reasons. jim
jim straight 187
Howdy All... this forum has been quite lately... I thought I would stimulate some activity by mentioning that over the years, the miners added ore to the mine dump instead of loading and shipping it to the smelter. Even by hand sorting rich clusters of ore were added to the mine dump It was found later that some of the material on the dump after the mine shut down contained coarse native gold. This was a fairly common occurrence about 100 years ago in Humboldt County Nevada.
jlivings 0
Jim,In your wanderings, have you ever done any prospecting in the Oriental Wash/Gold Point, Nevada area?

Red_desert 141
Good to see you are still kicking Jim! Around Christmas/New Year holiday season, I came across someone on a forum from the general area of your local prospecting grounds. Then asked him if he ever ran into Jim Straight out prospecting. Kind of funny, the answer was about talking to an older guy named Jim, gave a description including estimated height. That's when I checked your profile to see if the person was you he met. Your avatar looked like to him the person, so must be Jim Straight he met. I'll be turning 60 years in March, to see you getting out there yet Jim makes me feel there can be quite a few good years left. jim straight 187
Red_desert I absolutely deny it was me... Everyone who knows me personally or on the forums knows has been a longtime habit of mine to not let strangers know me, so I do not get busted in the nose for stealing their girl friend or even their wife; or welching out and not paying my bar bills for breaking up the mirrors at Helga's Bar in Randsburg when I'm drunken Rampage. Yep, I know my drinking cheap whiskey, smoking Bull Durum tobaccy, have taken a toll on my longevity, and as you are young enough to be one of my kids, if you promise to avoid my bad habits I'm sure you will be active with at least 40 more great and active years.

Reno Chris 427
Hey Jim -Are you planning to make it to the Pomona GPAA show in a few weeks?Ever finish that magazine article you were working on?Hope all is going well with you.I lost my father in law a week ago - as my wife and I have been married 36 years, I'd known him a long time. We were at his bedside here in Reno when he passed. I did take him with me on a couple short prospecting trips back in the day when he was in better shape and he enjoyed it.So enjoy life and get out to have some fun.Chris

jim straight 187
Howdy All... Thanks for posting. Today there is too much negativity throughout the world it isgreat to be on this forum exchanging both kind and friendly, and also informational; such as the2016 Fairplex Pomona GPAA Gold and Treasure show.Hey Chris, please help me out on this, I understand it will be in building 6, the same place as lastyear... The dates are Saturday 2/20 and Sunday 2/21. Also as Associate Editor, youwill be there representing the ICMJ, and also one of the speakers. Now I'm uncertain and need your help. There will also be the show a number of industry representativessuch Kevin Hogland, Bill Southern, James McCulloch, and about 5-6 more... could you wave your magicwand, and correct me if/n I misspelled Kevins or James last names wrong. and fill us all in on the detailsof this southern California based show as some of the southern California forum readers by knowing thelist of speakers may change their mind and decide to attend. Also save my skin by posting on Robssub-forum as we both have over the many past years... Mackay was Miner.... jimtheir minds and go
jim straight 187
Hey Chris if you see this, can you add to my upcoming events regarding the Pomona gold and treasure show which will be on the 20th and 21st of this month... I plan on going on Saturday the 20th as I did last year and still pushing my wheel chair as it makes a great wheeled walker and I can also sit in it when I need to... Mike will be my ride as last year... Mackay was a Miner... jim
jim straight 187
Tomorrow is the Pomona Gold show and Bill Southern is a speaker there. As we all aware Bill is educator, a dedicated teacher and will not point or hand you gold; but will show you the ways to speedup finding the gold akin to handing a fisherman a pole to find many fish rather than handing you just one fish. If you miss Bill at Pomona next week he will be speaking at Vegas and later at Phoenix... jim
Nugget Shooter 4,614
Thank you Jim for the always kind words and remember you created me Hahaha..... Good to see you yesterday and will be back in a couple hours to do another seminar. Good to see you in the front row my long time friend and with a big smile.
jim straight 187
Bill all I did was hand you a reel for your fishing pole. You skillfully have caught the fish... Bill, words fail me for all the, Good Words which you and Kevin honored me that morning at the seminar. I'm truly Humbled that so many attendees at the Pomona gold show remember me. At 86+ I'm a living antique that has, as an example used a SCR-625H Military Anti-tank landmine detector during ROTC Basic Training back in 1953; then later as an "Electronic Prospector," a phrase coined by Mr. Kenneth White. I started detecting for placer gold first with a "metal-mineral" BFO in the early 1960's. Now I marvel at you knowledge and your folksy presentation at the seminars. You and Kevin make a great team with your wiliness to freely share your knowledge... jim
jim straight 187
Bill what I'm trying to say and continue to say it badly, but at my age I'm on my way out. I've had my 15 seconds of fame years ago... My day is past. I liken myself as a caboose on a train... Thus when you and Kevin honored me in your folksy presentation it really touched me deeply as it could be my last one; not that I plan on going soon as that is up to the Lord, so you and Kevin really "twanged my heart strings." ... jim
