kgmrg
On December 29 Team Hershey (Jim/Wendy Wooddell, Stan Santiago, Jason Snyder, and I ) were hunting Franconia with several other hunters. A number of good size finds were being made, but it seems I was not so lucky. I had gone over to see one of Jason's finds and he suggested a location I should hunt. No sooner than I started swinging my new Gold Bug 2 that I spotted on the surface the find of a lifetime a 456 gram Chondrite. Wow! What a great way to end 2011. Happy New Year to all and good hunting for the coming year.Richard aka kgmrgPicture depicts a corner piece adjacent to main mass

GlassJAw667
Looks like there are two meteorites in that photo, correct? Congrats! I hope I can pick up a piece a 1/4 that size when I head to Franconia in April. Was it a surface find, or was it buried? If so, how deep was it? Jayray
Congrats again Richard!!! It couldn't of happend to a nicer guy. You missed a fun day hunting irons in 'iron alley'. Every one scored irons and Wendy found, then lost a chondrite. We searched for that thing for about 10 min, but no luck. Jim in the meantime, found 6 irons. Stand killed the skunk and left it out there too. Jason

My eldest daughter is still recovering from her surgery.Anyway, I appreciate your help, and hope we can do this again soon. I would like to check out other falls in AZ. like thosewe discussed around the camp fire.I hope Stan found some good ones. My best to you and your family and a Happy New Year.Go Team Hershey,Richard
GlassJAw667
Jay, which iron fall were you hunting? I don't know how well my detector will do looking for chondrites, and so far I am setting up to hit Franconia, G.B. and Holbrook. If there's a good place for irons near there I would love to hit it up.
Mikestang
Great stuff, Richard. You sure are developing a knack at finding the big, fusion crusted ones.
Desertsunburn
Hi Richard!Great find, dude! That stone was in the process of major break down. Due to your recovery of it, it will be preserved forever long as the human race survives. Had it been through a few more seasons, it would have likely broke apart. The weekend was a great weekend for a hunt and camp out.I think everyone scored meteorites! And I appreciated the help in the research area on the first day. Let's see, If I miss anyone, let me know...TerryTroyRick BobRichardJasonStanWendy PaleoJimand myself were out there hunting. My big find was 223 grams after a clean up, Wendy's was 180.3gAll total, we all recovered over 1,200 grams of meteorites. We all missed the company of FrankC who I thought might show up.When I arrived on the first day, I unloaded the quad to get ready to head out. Started it up, Wendy jumped on and we got 20 feet and had a flat tire. :*&$*(: Messed with it for a while and the Fix-a-Flat would not pump into the tire! I swear the ATV manufactures have absolutely missed the boat on making tires for ATV's for the Desert! :hmmmmm: This is the second time, right out of camp, that this has happened to me!Anyways, during the campfire, JayRay got a new nickname....Bam Bam! He was put in charge of warding off evil spirits and desert dwelling Bob cats and Cougars around camp! I might add, he did a really good job!During the camp fire, Team Hershey had a diversity meeting. This was to determine if we were equal opportunity and such in regards to our hunting and such. After a few Corona's, it was determined we were, in fact, a diverse team (a Brotherhood of sorts). :hahaha: We have two white guys, a Hawaiian, a Women and a Mexican!! :hahaha: And the Mexican told us now that we had drank Corona, we all had a little Mexican in us! :gig: That concluded the meeting and we went back to warding off evil spirts, Cougars and that darn bobcat!3 days of hunting was fun, we had a blast. Looks like my time in Franconia might exceed the 852 man hours I had last year! On my second set of boots already! Planning the next trip soon! I have yet to come down from the thrill of this once in a life time find. Maybe I need to try Gold Basin.
