mmalaguitarra
Hola, I am just getting started with metal detecting in Colombia S.A. The area where I live has great potential with a find of over 1 million ozs.estimated found 21 km N.E. of where I live. My question is I have a Whites Goldmaster 66tr with 2- coils to get started with also a sluice being shipped here from the U.S. How does the old White work in mineralized soils? I have read all the reviews on the net, but they are very few due to the age of this detector, I guess it is a big step above nothing. I will be posting pictures as soon as my equipment arrives and I can get swinging, and checking some good looking areas. There is nobody shooting coins either here the area where I live is 468 yrs old so I am hopeful of many artifacts and coins, being in the ground. Best, mmalaguitarra Rionegro Colombia S.A. garimpo
Hello mmalaguitarra and welcome to our group of gold hunters....sounds like the area where you live could have some good potential with the right detector....also was the 1 million oz. fine gold ornuggets? Even if it is fine gold there's still a good possibility that there will be nuggets therealso...that's the way it is here where I live in Brazil...Someone else will have to tell you about your detector since I've never used one like that but I'm guessing you will have trouble ground balancing it...be sure to keep us posted on your progressor problems...maybe someone here can help...also some good pictures would be a great help....Good luck... fredmason
Welcome! If that whites is a straight Tr machine I doubt you will be able to get much use in mineralized soil...my first detector was a Garret vlf/tr and the tr mode was completely useless in northern cal...it wasn't until someone thought up "reverse descrimination" that I was able to really use the garret for coin hunting.I bet Jim Straight or Reg Sniff could give you some healpful pointers if they remeber that far back...good luckfred

It was found when someone saw a quartz deposit with gold sticking out of the side of a bank of soil where a road had been cut through the hillside. The geological formation where they are finding the gold extends into the area where I live, so I am hopeful. All of the streams look good for flakes or nuggets. In the early 70s I panned streams in Colorado and found small amounts of gold on weekends 1/4- 1/2 ozs. back then gold was 300 per oz. thing have changes for the better if I can find that much here I will be doing quite well. The soil here is very much like the soil in Ga. very red and orange, I assume that means a lot of iron. Thanks for your response Chou

garimpo
Chou get that pan working and then the sluice....Bill Southern the owner ofthis site has a great deal on a GPX 4500 and that's a great machine for the red dirt your going to be detecting and a great coil would be the stock coil but it's not water proof....the coiltek Platypus DD would be great there since it is water proof...
