Goldfinger
HI Guys-Was browsing through some old Lapidary Journals this afternoon and saw a reference to man made gold and quartz for the jewelry market.http://eurekagem.com/index.htmlI thought I had seen everything but should have known it was coming sooner or later. They synthesize everything else like opals, rubies, sapphires, diamonds. Why not gold and quartz? But I wonder if the process of creating it is as simple as it appears and if there's enough of a market to justify it. Steve

Steve Well that stuff is way better than the fake gold and quartz that I have seen some people peddling on eBay, at least this is real gold and in the fissures and cracks of the natural quartz instead of gold paint on the quartz!! Haderly
I saw them in Tucson and the stuff does look really nice but I not going to buy a fake stone even if it is real gold.
Goldfinger
I thought the 16 to 1 mine had this market cornered. But nice to have competition -even if it is man made. :twocents: :hmmmmm: Steve
El Dorado
While it is gold in quartz, it is just gold in fractured quartz. The gold has no real character like crystalline or any of the other unique patterns natural gold quartz will show. I think it is way overpriced considering they want 25 @ct or $22K per kilo for an uncut rock....when the real stuff goes for 28-32 @ ct. for cabsThe first time I saw this in person, the seller(the person who actually invented the process) was actually trying to sell it as a real 16-1 product. We got into a rather heated argument at his table (at a gem show) and he threatened to call security. I welcomed his threat.... he ended up changing his signs and calling it man made as it should have been in the first place. At leat now his company is doing right by calling it what it is...man made. Goldfinger
It seems like it would be pretty obvious if it was being compared to 16-1. I question the sellers honesty-even if they did change it. I wonder how much gold is in a kilo of uncut man made material. I'd like to figure out the profit margin on it.Steve
Hoser John
:*&$*(: I HATE PHONEY GOLD- Thanx as always Steve for standing up for whats right as to many folks going"Well how can I make a buck outta this too". Morals in short supply and nothing manmade is worth squat compared to the real deal. I righteously appreciate your real golden beauties. These phoney baloney producers have fleeced many folks up here with plated copper, salt mixers and such bs and sold as real. About 9 years ago a couple a fellas got shot and run outta town for this bs and LD,king a fakes, grubbn' cans from trash as his comeuppance for this garbage too and CRIPPLED TOO-HaHaHa-best use of a 10lb sledge I ever seen--- keep it real-John
