Ism
I recently found geocommunicator and used it to map out mining claims in AZ.They recently updated the site and it no longer maintains those maps. They direct me to the AZ BLM site, but when I click on the map for mining data it just redirects me to the geocommunicator map. Is this data temporarily unavailable or am I doing something wrong?ThanksRandy
Steel Pan
I got lost, never did find a map showing mining claims. I too tried Geo and the Az. site, no luck.
adam
Looks like they are retiring certain aspects of the Geocommunicator, until something else comes along? LR2000 still seems to be working though.
Steel Pan
I tried to look up my claim. When I activated "identity", I could bring up claim info, but icons for map was crossed out. They got everything all screwed up. Geo don't work, and state sites don't seem to have any mining maps either.

OCHawgy
You should have noticed the "notice" on their page about the changes being made. Since they did not specify, I contacted someone about it and this is what they said:Response: Greetings,We have received your comments and concerns about the removal of information on GeoCommunicator. Many data layers are no longer available through GeoCommunicator including oil and gas leasing, geothermal, wind and solar energy, rights-of-ways, unpatented and patented mining claims, mine plans, withdrawals, classifications, land title, and Federal lands. Please try the recommended web sites for the data or contact the BLM State Office where the lands are located. http://www.geocommunicator.gov/GeoComm/contact.htmYour comments have been forwarded to BLM Public Affairs. Regards,GinnyThis message is in response to the following comment you submitted regarding GEOCOMMUNICATOR--LR2000 - MINING CLAIMS:When accessing the mining claims map via geocommunicator, there are a lot of layers missing on the right hand side including the layer with to turn on and off mining claims. Not sure if this was removed in the changes, though I hope not. Was it removed? Or is it a glitch? I have tried different web browsers. So in other words, it was removed. :( LR2000 still works, but I will miss being able to search any state with a visual overlay of mining claims over the map. With LR2000 you basically need to know a claim name. Not as easy to work unfortunately. And most of the BLM websites, forget them. Looks like we'll have to go into the BLM office to find maps of current mining claims.

Ism
I got a similar email response from Ginny that implied that AZ BLM had the map data. For a while there I thought It was my poor surfing skills. Unbelievable that such a useful tool is gone...and just when I found it. Hopefully the AZ BLM site will reactivate it. I will be emailing them...Thanks for the replies.

GlennM
It was better than nothing, though. You could use the Identify tool on any spot and it would automatically query LR2000 for you. LR2000 has it's uses and problems, but it was at least more up to date than Geocomm.Oh well. Definitely does affect my research to a degree. At least the Google Earth plugin still works, as does the pay to play one Bill posted up about not too long ago. GlennM
That's the same one I get now.The old one read that they were going to keep the different aspects up until a suitable replacement could be implemented. That was only a few weeks ago.Looks like everything else with the gov't - empty promisesIf any business had as bad of customer service as our gov't, they would have been gone out of business by December 1776! Jerico
Ya I just looked up my claims in California and nothing at all. I had a problem with a guy selling claims above me so guaranteed these guys above me will be working my claim thinking its there claim they bought because there rookies for sure. good times. Thanks blm as you will have people filing over existing claims now. That was a great tool IMO and helped me see who was moving in on me :whaaaa: as well as new areas i might of wanted to grab. Its a pain going to BLM and searching. Oh well I guess.
bcache
Looks like to me we cannot even find out who owns a claim now with any degree of certainty. Can't even ask permission if we don't know who owns the claim! Also consider if a person over claims that person, the last I heard, will play hell getting his money back from the Bureau of Land Mismanagement. Seem like a windfall for BLMM.Bill C
Hoser John
Simply call any BLM main office community room and you can get claim name files, location or area latest info delivered to your door in a couple a day for a lousy dime a page--or go there and receive instantly. THEN off to the recorders office to check for current problems and legal process and procedures followed on claiming, time constraints, proper locations, annual filings requirements, then good to go-John Claimjumping here in kalif up 1,000% at LEAST and my claims look like bombing range-- John
Patrick in Havasu
Is there a place left on line a fella can still find the "surface management" layout?BLM, State & private lands? Thanks in advance,Patrick.....
MachinistMan
You all know that most of our national forests and parks were sold to foreign interests long ago...right?
Steel Pan
You all know that most of our national forests and parks were sold to foreign interests long ago...right?Yup, I believe that Japan actually owns Yosemite. And that was yeeeaaarrrsss ago.I did figure out that, if you go to Geo.com and zoom in to an area of interest, click on the "identity" icon in the top border, click on the point of intereston the map and you can bring up any information as to whether it is claimed or not.So that still works the same way, at least for now. <_<
Gilaoro
John, Its not just claims but private ground too now! This past summer in Idaho on patented property we where working there was only one 40 acre claim on our boundry and it had an old road on it that came along the creek and eventually went to an old mill on another patented property. This road had been there since the 1800's and was use by the power company as a right of way and maintenance route to customers up the Mountain, it had signs where it left the NF and crossed on to patented ground. We would usually go to town on a Monday or Tuesday to get supplies, coming back one afternoon using the main road that did not cross a private claim I noticed a fifth-wheel R/V parked down by the creek in my camping area. I parked at my Motor Home and unloaded and then took my china rihno down to register what I figured to be a regular customer, before I could say a word a guy boiled out and informed me that he had claimed all that are a and he had saw me pull in an I would have to leave!! Well I am usually pacient and explanatory to newbies that are obviously lost and in most cases made customers out of hem rather than their remain to be tresspassers, I was tired too after 110 miles of mountain roads that day so I unloaded on him, he at first didn't beleive me! Inviteing him to come with me around the corner and into the trees I showed him our permanent camp that he had bypassed, it has a butler building, a log cabin , a couple of R/Vs, a tractor, ATV,, snowmobiles etc and a big sign on the main road announcing the land status and prices for camping and prospecting, needless to say he was flabergassted and embarrassed and said but the map didn't show all this and the BLM took my money, I told him how lucky he was that he didn't move in on my next door neighbors who where prone to shooting first, even at people they know! This was not the only case and its actually common where there are inholdings in the NF .MaxSimply call any BLM main office community room and you can get claim name files, location or area latest info delivered to your door in a couple a day for a lousy dime a page--or go there and receive instantly. Hoser John
:*&$*(: Sure brings back MANY memories Max--my claims cut into pieces and finding 4 new claims and their owners dredging like mad, trashing the place, digging into banks, hydro blasting and telling me they'll shoot-hahahahaha--don't know me. Got 2 of'm REAL claims for free elsewhere and other 2 idjets took to court and cops ran'm off too. This year will definately be the worst ever as have seen ungodly damage and claims look like bombing ranges in the middle of winter--John :angry-smiley-010[1]:
