Hi All

I don't like this rule, policy or the will of some over paid undereducated bureaucrat, but  . As our current laws read it is unlawfull to collect meteorites on all public domain lands  . According to the old collecting and possesion rules you were allowed to collect and posses meteorites from certain public lands within the daily bag limits ;) . Buying , Selling, bartering and or trading were against the old and new laws :nono: . I will pledge help to anyone arrested or cited and I'm certain many others would chip in as well :D . What deeply disturbers me is the depth of uncle sams pockets if they really wish to make a point or an example of an individual or individuals :whaaaa: . It could bankrupt or devistate an individuals finances :yikes: . I know all of the fine folks on this forum only hunt private land with the landowners permission  . But you all might keep this in mind as you post on this forum :hmmmmm: . Trust me these forums are monitored :inocent: !! Happy Huntin John B.

Bucket, I'm sure most people would answer the way you did,

until they get caught...

JohnB. knows first-hand what it is like to get nailed by an unscrupulous Government

and can tell the story of his incarceration in the near east better than I.

I know I am not telling you anything you don't already know

but the government we have now in America is not our father's government any more,

this is an out of control bureaucratic monster with a momentum of it own

and little or no internal control over who and what they damage.

Thanks for the heads up John, it's a good reminder of where we find ourselves these days.

It's not very American in America any more.

Flak

J.B. , :wubu: Oh Great One, and I say that with RESPECT.

I always look foward to your posts. The part I ( just don't get ) is first how and why this situation came about ??

And secondly,

With the MOUNTAINOUS amount of life and death problems to deal with in our country and social/economic society, NOT to mention our globally related problems , and nowadays Domestic and global terrorism problems, How could this be a situation ( recreational meteorite hunting ) that warrants our federal and state governments to expend the time and expense to be interested in.????????????? :zapped:

I just don't understand.

And how did the AVERAGE AMERICAN that is a recreational prospector/rockhounder/outdoors person ever become aware of this ????

Was it mentioned at one time (that I may have missed ) on the NATIONAL T.V. or newspapers / radio news shows ????????? To make ALL American citizens aware of ???

Please before I leave this beautiful planet called EARTH let me see "COMMON SENSE" USED like it was a generation or 2 ago. "Priorities" that warrant the attention of the elected officals ........."what are they TODAY". ??????? :nutty: :baaasmiley: :cigar:

"In the society that Orwell describes, everyone is under complete surveillance by the authorities, manly by telescreens. The people are constantly reminded of this by the phrase 'big brother is watching you', which is the core 'truth' of the propaganda system in the state. Since the publication of Nineteen Eighty-Four, the term 'Big Brother' has entered the lexicon as a synonym for abuse of government power, particularly in respect to civil liberties".

..Trust me these forums are monitored :inocent: !! Happy Huntin John B.

Attention All Federal and State public forum monitors! Thousands of ninja-like meteorite hunters will converge on the White House lawn, from March 15-25, 2011, to illegally hunt meteorites. All meteorites found will be sold to benefit the ongoing search for a Presidential candidate who actually likes his or her fellow Americans, and enjoys USING our public lands instead of fencing them off for pie-in-the-sky wind farms. And if you think you can stop them, well, you've never been to Modesto have you!

Flak, I agree 100%, and i didnt want to come across as poo-pooing Johns point either but you get to the point where you might as well stay home and watch yer V-chipped tv so atleast Sammy will know where you are at all times!! This kind of stuff just gets my grundies in a bunch!! where do these nuts get off with these insane laws!! I agree with John in that if anyone needs help staving off big bad sam we should all pitch in and help. Had he never posted this...i would have never even known of such laws although i would think that most laws are written with the word "Knowingly" in there somewhere, which damm sure leaves some wiggle room for a ranger not to haul you off to the pokey...but then again Flak we are not..."in Kansas anymore Toto".

John B. I hear ya' and agree 100%. It's especially troubling that the recent changes are not even law, but merely policy created by some nameless faceless, perhaps brainless, bureaucrat, based on their "interpretation" of the law.

Trouble is it will take much more than one or two or a dozen people kicking in for legal fees. What is needed is an organization of hundreds of like-minded folks who will combine their resources and fund legal battles. Then competent lawyers need to be found, and a case with the right parameters needs to be identified to take to court, and be pursued up to the SCOTUS. The lawyers will need to be knowledgable about procedures and cases before the US Court of Claims, which would be the proper venue to start the case rather than the US District Court.

I joined the NRA solely to add my few dollars to the fight for the 2nd Amendment Rights, and have joined other organizations to be able to contribute to worthy battles against government oppression. I considered joining GPAA for the same reason, but found they don't really do much on the court front, though they lobby some for legislative action.

But I find no organization for meteorite hunters. Have I missed something?

Aloha gang,

And just one more reason why you havn/t seen any pics of any "allegedly found meteorites" I may or may not have found in the field during the past couple of years. :inocent:

"Common sense" just does exist in the government anymore because if it did too many politicians would be out of work.

Just remember to swing that coil low and slow and make sure you fly under the radar at all times.:brows:

Aloha and stay safe.

JB, Flak, Ed & all, I have no knowledge of any meteorite organizations. There are a few prospecting organizations but, like the GPAA, they go about doing their own thing and minding their own business. The problem in this country is there are lots of people who DON'T mind their own business. They have all kinds of time on their hands and they have huge noses which they like to stick in other people's business.

All one has to do is look at what happened to smokers and to the people who own bars, restaurants and other businesses which catered to smokers. The government had the audacity to tell owners of private businesses that they could not allow smoking on their own property. Now, cigarettes have to be made with bogus, foul tasting fire-proof paper and our good buddy Obama -- who promised NOT to raise taxes -- added a $10 PER CARTON tax on them. He also raised the tax on rolling tobacco a whopping $28 PER POUND!

Our government (Pelosi, Reid, Obama, et al) went WAY too far in WAY too many ways and those of us who were born in the land of the free are now being told where we can go and not go, what we can do and what we can't do. We are NOT like the American Indians. We have telephones. We have TV's. We have the internet AND we have guns. How long will we allow this BS to happen?

Our friendly local BLM & Forest Rangers are just doing their jobs. It's the people at the top who need an old fashioned horse whipping.
